I have a 96 Explorer v6 and all of the sudden my odometer stopped working. I dont understand why because my speedometer still works? Is the odometer even driven by the speedo cable or what? Does anyone have any advice at how I can fix this problem?

The speedo and odometer are electronically controlled, the signal comes from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) which is located on the transfer case. I'm pretty sure there is no speedo cable. Most likely the fault is with the speedo/odometer cluster itself.

i also have a 96 and i ran into the same problem. try taking out the instrument cluster and blowing it out with compressed air, that should do it.
