Don't know about the squeak, but the speedometer sounds like it needs to be replaced. The spedo is all electric and has a little motor that drives the odometer - it probably died. If the needle still works but the odometer doesn't, then a replacement is in order

You have lost a gear in the odometer/tripmeter. These are analog (mechanical) in the '96. I bought a dash assy off ebay. Or you can look up "DNA" speedometer repair in Tampa FL plus a few other sites on the 'net.

Yes they have an analog readout, but they are electronically driven.

That little motor on the left is for the odometer/tripmeter. You might be able to replace just the motor or whatever gear broke/fell off.

As for that squeak, (you're talking front end right?) could be the control arm bushings, or more likely the sway bar bushings.

Front end squeak

My '98 XLT 4WD had a front end suspension related noise that was difficult to find. Two Ford Dealers and a tire dealer claimed it was my front shocks. I had aftermarket Edelbrock so I exercised the lifetime warranty and replaced them. I had my doubts the shocks were the problem so I drove the car without the front shocks installed and I had the same problem. I went ahead and put the new shocks on but that obviously didn't solve my problem.

It turned out to be seized tire rod ends. They were tight instead of loose so the mechanics didn't think they were bad. They would bind up and then would squeak when they moved. Replacing both tie rod ends solved the problem.
