what does this mean
"For 2012, Explorer is offered with two levels of the acclaimed Ford SYNC® voice-activated communications and entertainment system"

Interesting. I'd guess it is MFT and vanilla SYNC like other Fords have.

Do they offer sync w/out MFT currently?

My 08 Explorer had it, and it's in all Fords as an option I believe. Explorer and Edge are SYNC with MFT or none as far as I know.

Im going to be really pissed off if this is true..

"3.5l v6 290hp @ 4,800rpm, 286 ft lbs torque @ 3,500 rpm"

Right from the 1st link posted..

The 11s have 253 ft lbs

They are reporting them at different RPM values. Just different parts of the torque curve. The 11' should have the same amount of torque @3500 RPM.

They always report the highest amount of HP or TQ. If the 11's have 286 lb.-ft of torque, they would have advertised/promoted that, not the 253 we have.

That's just like saying, we know the engine has 290 but we are going to promote 275hp. The manufacturers don't do that.

From the overview:

First Post

Hello all!

This is my first post here :)

My wife and I are interested in buying a new Ex in the not too distant future and the above information is awesome. It will be her car and she is looking for the best mileage, so the info on the 2.0 Ecoboost is very helpful. Here is to hoping that it actually gets close to 29MPG without being too much of a pig.

Thanks to everyone who posts in this forum. The information, support, and experiences you all share are an invaluable resource.

On the other hand, if this *is* true, then I'm really happy that my 2011 order arrived with hail damage... :-)

if true, 29mpg is pretty amazing for a vehicle that big and that heavy

The torque increase may be a misprint, elsewhere on the 2012 website says:

Explorer’s standard engine is a 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 delivering 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. Ti-VCT allows individually optimized camshaft timing of valve opening and closing events to improve fuel efficiency while delivering increased power and reducing part-throttle emissions. Mated to Ford’s six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission, this powerful, flexible and efficient V6 delivers up to a best-in-class EPA-rated 25 mpg on the highway.

And don't forget, the 2.0L Ecoboost is around 55lbs. lighter than the V6. That way, the reduction in power will be more than offset by the reduction in weight! :D

Oh well, maybe not, but hopefully the nice torque curve will offer up passable performance. I am just wondering where the reviews are for the pre-production vehicles? Do these Ex's with the ecoboost even really exist? I just find it odd that we haven't seen any sort of first-drives types of articles out there (except for the ones involving the Edge).

Craig on fb confirmed it is a typo.

That was just posted from ford, looks like nothing that hasn't been brought up before, but it's nice for those of us waiting for MY2012's to be built to finally see some press info.
Thanks for posting that! I can imagine that any new info will help with the wait!

w1kedz, I found that uniquename was correct that MFT is the difference between the two levels.

2012 upgrade info

I plan to order a 2012. Cory, any info from Ford would be welcome about what if any "fixes" to the most common (at least on this forum) problems people have reported. A-pillar and rain noise issues and of course MFT with Nav. Of course Ford can't tell us right? Bad for trying to move the last of the 2011 off the lots if they announce the 2012 has "improvements" to fix the 2011's problems. So, what I am trying to decide is order now (or as soon as I can) or wait until maybe a 2012 job #2 build. Has any decisions been made Cory you can tell us about? Obviously MFT will have the latest software, that's great. But what if it's the computer, is Ford planning on changing that but first deplete inventory into early 2012 builds? Stuff that would be good to know but hard for Ford to reveal. Any info will be appreciated.

Although it didn't specify in the press release that the 2nd URL provided by JStellato takes you to, in previous writeups for the 2.0L Ecoboost engine, they said it will be available only in the FWD models.

Yes, Cory, I too am waiting on the 2012 to see if the Rain noise, Apillars etc have been addressed. Where or when would that info be available?
