Does anyone know why the oil holes were deleted on the output shaft of the A4LD when it sat behind the 4.0 engine?
Was it a strength issue or an 'oil not needed there because of other changes' thing?

The sun gear in the shell has two bushings in it, the 4.0 does not use bushings in the sun gear so they did away with the lube holes for those bushings.

I am not sure about interchangeability.

Interesting. .

I decided to not risk it with putting the oil hole shaft behind my 4.0 (even though I spent a GREAT deal of time pulling that transmission at the Junk Yard)

so I picked up a non oil hole output from a Trans parts store (same price as the JY, but without the pain and agony)

I think I'll put that 2wd output shaft on ebay, try to at least get something for the effort of pulling it out....
