1964 Ford Galaxie
Hello everyone, I have a 1998 Explorer 5.0 engine that I am converting to a carb, I have everything needed for the swap. I’m installing the engine in my 1964 Galaxie, I will be using the front factory pulleys and belts that came on the engine and using an electric fuel pump to simplify things. I have to use a front sump oil pan for the Galaxie and also a new oil pump pickup. Will I have any issues or problems with switching oil pans or is it an easy swap, any problems with the dipstick on where it should be or relocated. Your advice is very much appreciated. Thanks, Jim.

The 302 did not change much 1969-2001
You will have zero issues installing a different pan pickup and dipstick … they will
Bolt on

Hope this helps!

Ditto, you can use almost any matching 302 oil pan and pump pickup. The dipstick you have to place on the driver's side as it goes into the block near the bottom. You'll use different headers or manifolds for the Galaxie, so you might need a change if the Explorer dipstick interferes. The common Fox Mustang 302's had a slightly different mount for the dipstick, but that might fit better. So just test the Explorer part and see if it's any issue with your left header/manifold.

One other item, the oil filter. The Explorer is the only one that used a metric block adapter for the filter. You will likely want to use the old popular SAE version, those unscrew from the block with a large hex bit. It's about a 3/8" size, I checked that once long ago with a chisel(they have the six sides and vary in size). The old block adapter will let you screw on the larger FL-1A filter.
