no pics yet because it was dark. but its a typical 98 xlt with the 5.0 2wd. 166k miles, 1700$. im thinking i got a good deal. the CEL is on, owner says ford says it needs new cats. ill dig into this later. PO says the CEL has been on for many years, just gets it reset for inspection time here in nc. its a nice looking truck, interior is really good, paint is average for the year. anything in particular i should know now that i own it? thanks in advance and i look forward to being an active member here!

Change fluids and fix whatever the problem is. Sounds like a good find to me

oh yeah. fluids are at the top of the list. ill get pics when its daylight. im liking this truck. teh wifey sais i cannot have a mustang, car seats wont fit. so i just got an explorer with the old mustang motor, im happy! hopefully i can get some good life and use out of this truck.

I am very happy with mine! have you thought of any mods? I know you will be looking for a way to improve MPGs:P

not thought of any mods yet. im still thumbing through this website....gathering ideas! right now the first thing to do is freshen up all fluids. then ill look into possible mods. i know the mpg's are gonna be bad. i only drive 9 miles to work one way, so thats not to bad. i wanted something of good size, and made of metal to haul the kids in. this one had never pulled anything, so first "mod: will be a trailer hitch to pull my little utility trailer, i just cant trust the bumper. after that, who knows. what are the popular mods to these things? anything from the 5.0 mustang arena work on the 5.0 motors in the explorers?

I dont have much knowledge about which parts can be swapped from mustangs but i can guarantee that info is on this site somewhere. TMH torque monster headers are quite popular and are supposedly really good, more power and mpg. lots like to lift their Xs, torsion twist and shackles will run you $80 for shakles and the twist you can do yourself. Just need an alignment after .

It kind of all depends what the truck is for, is it going off road a bunch? strictly pavement? Racing it? Hauling?

Btw JY is a great place for parts, i picked up a trailer hitch a couple months ago for $50, pretty much new, hidden hitch

thanks for the info, the most off road it will see is a gravel road. im not into off roading. i stick to racing on the concrete, racetrack that is. it will mostly be used for hauling my 2 kids and their stuff. it will be a daily driver mostly. but i like modding cars. i have a miata that i have too much money into already.

If you are going to pull anything check to see if you have the secondary transmission cooler it will extend the life of your transmission

for the most part i will only pull my utility trailer, 5x8 i think it is. but ill check to see if the truck has one. thanks for the heads up
