I've searched and searched.... nobody sells a real intak for our explorers (to git rid of the plastic one.) all I find is the ones from the air box to the throttle body..

KKM sells a filter and MAS adapter.
If you are looking for a better intake pipe from the MAS to the TB then you have not searched hard enough, you have ALOT of options.

Some people have their local exhaust shop bend one up to fit, others have used plastic pipe, some have used universal air intake kits from like Auto Zone, and what I did was find a Aerostar hose that fit perfect and did not have the factory "air baffle" built in. It was also nice and round and flowed just fine. Junk yard time?

no I'm calling it the wrong thing (thinking carburated motors) I gues I am asking if there is a aftermarket Plenum... to get rid of the plastic plenum top half and lower half... maybe a alumin one like the 91-94 ohv had at least them you could gasket port and polish..does that make better sense..

yes there are plenty "tube" kits I even seen them made out of dryer hose to pvc pipe...and swiss cheeseing the air box..

Ah I see.
You want a ported upper intake manifold and yours is plastic.

You can use the manifold from a 91-94 I believe, just use the sensors from your later model 4.0L? Is this for the 2000 EB in your sig?

The plastic upper plenum keeps the intake charge much cooler = more power.
So you might be shooting yourself in the foot.

Also the OHV 4.0L uper intake flows quite well and is by no means your smallest bottleneck. in fact even high performance built 4.0L OHV's may only get slight de-burring and gasket mathcing on the upper and lower intakes. You can also make a phenolic spacer to go between them to keep the intake air cooler.

If you want to make power look at having the heads worked on a bit, this is where the OHV 4.0l will really benefot from porting and polishing.

What performance mods do you have already?

naw its for my sohc... my 93 has the ohv that I will be "toying with"
so basically the lower intake I have to stay with the plastic one...
hmmm bummer

All SOHCS have plastic intakes I believe, although it was also used in Cars and Rangers, you might have a look at their intakes.

plastic can be ported/gasket matched

they probably have plastic also... mine had the recall done to it... I was worried that they had went out agian and if they did I waswanting to upgrade it but like you said may be a downgrade.... got to get the 93 fixed so I can toy with the 00 ;)
