Man i was about to rotate my tires, and i cant find the lock socket for the lugs, i dunno which brand it was cus the guy who had my truck before me bought them, what do i do!!!!!!!!!!!!!????

hmm, my brother had that problem once... he took it to get a tire, but he didnt have his gorilla lock key, they said they could either send it off to get a key made for it or they could break it off, he just made them break it off

Doh!! That sucks. I would go down to the auto parts store and start comparing the patterns. Other than that I haven't a clue??

You can hammer a large socket onto the end of the locking socket. Depending on how tightly it is on, you can oftentimes get it off that way.

i mean i had it like two weeks ago, and i usually keep it in my truck! this is horrible. its my fault, its probably still in my truck somewhere just not where it should be.....

I lost my key. All I did was grind two sides of the bolt down flat with a grinder so I could get a wrench or vice grips on there. Hell, thiefs don't even bother with the grinding.

Well if you have a friend like my buddy Dave he can get them off for you with vise grips. Dave is a huge guy and VERY strong. He got the lock nut off all 4 wheels on hisold truck with vise grips, I couldnt make it budge....

Kris had that problem. He ended up using his BFH to hammer a socket onto the locks. I think he went through 2 sockets, but they were Craftsman

That's why I don't have wheel locks. Hell, they have to have a tall enough jack, a long breaker bar, socket extension, and have to lift the heavy tire off. If they could do all that, they could get the wheel locks off.

Hammering a socket to it will work. I have done it in the past. And i also used craftsman and had them replaced because they were defective. For some reason they broke.:mattmoon:

My tire shop has attachments they put on their impact wrench (I hate that thing) that spins around the lock lug loosely. Then, as the lug heats up, the attachment grabs it and takes it off.

Ok, that is a lousy explanation of how it works, but it does work. I think a lot of tire shops have these because I have a feeling this happens all the time.

We had the same situation. we bought the explorer, then we had a flat. To my surprise, it had locking lugs. The bigest surprise is the key was no where to be found. They repaired the tire on the the car, and I asked the goodyear place how much it would cost to remove them. They went into a long story about how much time it could take... blah, blah, blah!!! It would have been around a 80 dollars. I said forget it. I called around, and brought it to the ford dealer. They removed the lugs, and all I had to pay for was the new lugs. Funny, they only cost around 5 dollars.

Hmm.. I just found out yesterday that I don't know where mine is... It made me :fire: mad... seems like it's always one thing or another... So when I get a chance, I'm breaking them off if I can, or gonna have someone do it... I don't like them anyway, and like Alec said, thieves could get them off anyway...

And another note - one of my co-workers lost his too recently too... DOH!

I had the same problem. Most tire places have a tool kit which has a special socket with splines in it. They hammer that onto the keyed lug and then it comes right off. There shouldn't be a charge if you are getting work done. I'd rather spend a few bucks than try to break it off, rims cost a lot.

NTB took mine off, when I bought new tires. If you have an NTB(National Tire & Battery) around try them.

Adam Foote - I wouldn't spend the money either, the shop that did my lift and put on the wheels "graciously" added them...

I just want them off, at no harm to the wheels. Anyway this can be achieved, that's the route I'd like to go.. And when I said I'm gonna break them off, just generally meant getting them off..
