Hi all.
About six months ago while I was driving up the beach the explorer backfired for some reason and unknown to me at the time this destroyed the air cleaner box.(and I never checked under the hood for the week I was on the beach :thumbdwn: )
Well need I say more, you can imagine after a week of sand driving with no air filter what condition the motor was in.
On returning and after an under car wash at the local car wash I lifted the hood to do a high pressure clean of the motor and to my horror the air cleaner box was f*?#*!
After inspecting all the intake plumbing back to the throttle body SAND, SAND AND more SAND.
Checked the oil, none on the dipstick
Since then it has been oiling up the plugs and using heaps of oil. (Try pulling out the spark plugs and cleaning them when you are in a hurry. Not easy.)
Ford wants $10000 plus for a rebuild and nobody else was interested in touching an EXPLODER motor.(Thats what the nonbelievers call Explorers)
Surfed the net for weeks looking for motors, plenty in the states but transport to Australia seemed to a real problem.
My ex is in good condition and I think it is worth the effort to repair, so, I carried on regardless of other peoples comments, to scrap it, it’s a heap of crap, and so on.
But all was not lost, good news for me and other Australians who think their explorer is worth the effort to repair. I found a company here that imports BRAND NEW 4LT SOHC MOTOR from the states. These motors are ready to go, and the best part is it only cost $3950.
Eagle Motors Brisbane.
I bought one yesterday and Ill install it next weekend. Here are some pictures

Good Stuff!!!
They use the SOHC Motors in the New V6 Ford Couriers now as well

A Mate uncle who after a Canning Stock rout trip was that disappointed with his 4.2 Turbo Diesel Patrol sold it and brought a New V6 Duel cab Courier and hasn’t looked back
He has 3 cars
New V6 Courier
Explorer
Falcon
Now that’s an all ford Family LOL

Hope the new engine goes well for ya

Sadly i am having some problems with Mine at the moment, It won't engage 4WD Low, given up trying to fix it and am sending it into ford to get diagnosed and possibly fixed, hopefully it's not to expensive thou.

Can you buy explorer in Australia or do you have to import them? I would imagine it would be costly to run them down there considering gas prices because I know I spend a lot on fuel

What makes me mad is the automatic transmission equped Auatralian Explorers have a floor shifter instead of the column shift that we have in the states.
Why Ford did this is anyones guess.

They compare well with other 4x4s when it comes to fuel consumption.
I am constantly getting 28mpg and better on long runs.

Because the women in the focus group told them that they didn't like stick shifs

AfBoy>
Yes they are imported by Ford Australia< basically everything has Export stamped on it from when it was Built By Ford, I wish they imported the Sport Trac as well, I would love one of those. .

AS for cost> well they are better than just about every other Petrol 4WD it’s size over hear (Patrol, Land Cruiser, Discovery, Pajero, Jeep Ect) but still not cheep to run, Fuel just hit 1.42per Litre (3.7 Litres to the gallon, Roughly) hear in Perth Western Australia, It jumped 10 cents over night What a Load of crap that is, were are all being screwed not only buy the Oil companies but by the Governments.

Parts prices are by far the worst, Buying parts from Ford we would get charged 2-3 times more than what you guys would, E.G> Fuel filler cap $130, Spark plug leads $370

The Explorer never really took off in Australia like it did elsewhere in the world, It also has a bit of a bad reputation that has been spread around by people who mostly have never owned one.

Dan> so that’s why you all have column autos, I thought it was just because you guys prefer the Column shifts, personally I hate them, go the Floor shift!!!

Because the Oz Explorers and those in the UK have the steering wheel on the proper side of the vehicle!

Not so happy any more the wiring loom has been an absolute nightmare.
But I’ll get there in the end the impossible just takes a little longer.

Hi do you know how much a petrol cap is,or where I can get one.
