Hi all.
About six months ago while I was driving up the beach the explorer backfired for some reason and unknown to me at the time this destroyed the air cleaner box.(and I never checked under the hood for the week I was on the beach :thumbdwn: )
Well need I say more, you can imagine after a week of sand driving with no air filter what condition the motor was in.
On returning and after an under car wash at the local car wash I lifted the hood to do a high pressure clean of the motor and to my horror the air cleaner box was f*?#*!
After inspecting all the intake plumbing back to the throttle body SAND, SAND AND more SAND.
Checked the oil, none on the dipstick
Since then it has been oiling up the plugs and using heaps of oil. (Try pulling out the spark plugs and cleaning them when you are in a hurry. Not easy.)
Ford wants $10000 plus for a rebuild and nobody else was interested in touching an EXPLODER motor.(Thats what the nonbelievers call Explorers)
Surfed the net for weeks looking for motors, plenty in the states but transport to Australia seemed to a real problem.
My ex is in good condition and I think it is worth the effort to repair, so, I carried on regardless of other peoples comments, to scrap it, it’s a heap of crap, and so on.
But all was not lost, good news for me and other Australians who think their explorer is worth the effort to repair. I found a company here that imports BRAND NEW 4LT SOHC MOTOR from the states. These motors are ready to go, and the best part is it only cost $3950.
Eagle Motors Brisbane.
I bought one yesterday and Ill install it next weekend. Here are some pictures
