I can see if I can host it on here for download, if not, ill upload screen captures of it for all you guys. Need to finish a few minute things on it before I feel comfortable posting it for fear of errors being seen, lol :roll:

you have an amazing project going here i really really hope this works for you with all the hard word and long hours you have put into your truck

:roll::roll::roll:

Ok, so i don't know if this counts as progress or not....

So last night, in anticipation of Kris driving up this weekend, I wanted to get Blue's cooling system fixed so we could run the truck...Makes sense, right? Well, I thought Blue had blown a radiator so i was expecting to have to buy one, ugh. But long story short, I was relieved to find that it was simply a hole in the lower radiator hose, so that was easily replaced and everything buttoned up back together. I filled it coolant, started it up, and noticed it was idling about 1500 Rpm, but no big deal. Then I started getting codes, so i shut off the motor and pulled them just to see what they were. Got a 116, 341 (this one threw me off) and a 542 code. All three didnt really bother me, so i go to start the truck and...nothing. the motor cranks, but no start. And i cannot get rid of the 116 ect out of self test range code....ugh. and kris, sorry, but the y pipe is still attached...:roll:

OK, so tomorrow is the big day! I think I narrowed the no start problem down to the ECT, but will not know until i actually check the resistance on it. Kris should be here in about an hour, at which point we will have ice cream and then hit the sack for tomorrow. By Sunday evening, you guys will have an answer as to whether or not this swap will work. I hope the best, and please, pray for my madness

Russell = :crazy:

good luck Russell!!!

It runs and shifts!!!!

That is all, I'm going clubbing for the night :cool:

That's great news! Did you manage to get rid of the error codes? Was the ECT defective or was it a wiring issue?

The no start was simply a bad ect sensor, so I replaced that and it started right up! Ill have more photos later today, but kris and i have some other errands to run while he is here. But yes, it runs, parks, goes in reverse, drive, and shifts. Thanks to everyone here for your support, and once i figure out a few bugs in this, I report back!

Excellent job, that's great to hear!

W A H O O O o o o I want one. How soon will we be able to start ours?

Congrats Russell! You will have to let us know how/if it changes the MPG, and if it feels any quicker.

Since you now have a hybrid EEC-IV engine/EEC-V transmission, how would you scan for trouble codes? Do you have 2 diagnostic connectors (one for each system)? How do they communicate with each other (some sort of custom data bus bridging both computers)?

The EEC-IV and EEC-V obd systems are isolated from each other, so If i need to pull any OBD-1 codes, i still do it the old fashioned way and count the blinkly MIL's. The OBD-2 system I would utilize my ELM Scanner and hook it up to the data link connector found on EEC-V systems. Oddly enough, the chances are good that if something causes a code to appear on the OBD-1 side, it will translate over by proxy to the OBD-2 simply because they are both reading the same sensor values. Other than that, there is no Data Bus system in place for the two to communicate.

I nominate Kris for Volunteer of the Year award. :chug:

Thanks for the nomination, I hope I hope I win.

Im just glad I got to ride in the first 1st gen running a 5r55e

And a HUGE thanks to Kris for driving up this weekend and helping me with this swap. If he hadn't, the tranny would still be sitting in the garage and Blue would still be with A4LD. Seriously folks, Kris is the GO-TO guy for any and all things explorers. He deserves a lot of the credit for this swap getting done like it did. THANK YOU KRIS!!!
