Our New 2011 Explorer

Took some pix this afternoon during a break in the weather. It's messy, but here it is. Front license plate holder will be removed soon and a set of driving lights added to the nose:

Yep, got one of my degrees (BS Aerospace Engineering) from PSU in 1990.

Go Lions!!

Looks great JD, I was not big on that colour on the website but now that I have seen some actual pictures of it I think it is a very good looking colour. I bet it looks like it changes colour depending on the time of day.

grrr to the giant plastic cover blocking the motor

Very nice, but dang, that motor is stuffed in there.

Is that cover made of foam? I looked at a new Edge a couple weeks ago and danged if the engine cover wasn't soft for less vibration/noise.

Manufacturers have been putting these types of covers on for years mostly to lessen noise. The trade-off is probably slightly increased heat but not enough to cause issues.

Yes it's foam. About an inch thick. Is easily removable with two thumbscrews.

She looks great! Enjoy your new ride. I'm getting that same color combo. I was second-guessing it, but not anymore after seeing your pics. Thanks!

Weather was finally good enough to wash and wax the X. She's clean...for now....give it 12 hours and we're expecting more snow again... I also removed the front license plate holder, hard installed my radar detector and installed clear led's in each footwell and tied them to the interior lights. I've still got my KC Daylighters, my brake controller and a garage door opener left to install.

Here's the pix:

Great pics. That would have been my choice of colours if I had to go with one of the darker ones. I particularily like the shot of the one showing the back cargo area. Wish Weathertech would get the cargo liner and all weather floor mats made for this unit. I'd like to get the one piece mat for the second row and with 2 dogs (Shelties) I really want that cargo liner! Thanks again for sharing.:)

what date did you order it on

How did you wire up the radar detector? I'm thinking of hardwiring my V1, but I'm not sure how best to do it. Did you piggy back off of the map lights, or something else?

I found a switched wire off the fuse block to tap. The map lights have constant on power.

Didn't order mine. It was one the dealer had on order, but it was 99% of what I would have ordered anyways, so we took it.
