P0401

I have a 1996 explorer that 1 or 2 times a month, the check engine light comes on. When I read the code I get a P0401, indicating excessive EGR flow like the EGR valve is stuck open. I have a new EGR valve, tube and sensors. And I still get the P0401. Any ideas? I have already changed the vaccume and rubber lines connected to the accociated items. Thanks in advance. It is possible the new EGR has a sticking problem, but I thought I'd ask here anyway thanks

From what I have read P0401 is insufficient flow, not excessive.

From another thread:
"When the check engine light appears with a P0401 it also can be a leak in the vacuum hose, broken vacuum solenoid, kinked vacuum hose."

p0401 egr insufficient flow??

the SES light came on so drove into advance and this idiot diagnosed it as "egr insufficent flow" with a code of p0401 ... from others they said it was a sensor inline with the egr valve to tell if the emissions were too dense to release into the atmosphere ... has anyone had his problem and...

Pull the dpfe hoses from the egr tube and check them thouroughly for leaks, cracks. It's not uncommon for a hose to have a blow out which is hard to see.
