Yes, two brake questions in one day.

I was surprised to see my parking brake worn almost completely away. The lining actually fell off one of the shoes when I pulled the rotor off. I put it back together as-is. Didn't plan on doing brake shoes today. I'll get to it eventually.

Is this normal? I'm sure there should be some wear just from drag, but I wonder if somebody drove it a distance with the parking brake on.

Its not uncommon for them to fall apart.

Very very common actually, especially if it is used infrequently. You are probably going to have to change cables and hardware to get it working again.

The cable and all seems to be fine. It actually still works with one of the shoes missing. Just doesn't hold very well at all. I think this is going to be a low priority fix. I'll carry a chock block in case I need to park on a hill.

I am fairly certain this is a very common problem on our trucks. every time I go to a Junk Yard, all of the parking brake shoes, are eaten up, or falling a part. At least you don't have to do so much work to get yours functioning again. For me, I have to replace the cast bracket on the passenger side that holds the cable, which just happens to be a part of rear diff.

Interesting that all the parking brake shoes are worn down. That means they are dragging. Under normal use their should be no drag at all. Lots of wasted gasoline.
