I have looked at all the links, pics, discussions related to the location of my 1997 5.0 Explorer's PCV valve and STILL can't see or feel the dern thing! That said, I'm fairly convinced that it's located between the firewall the the rear of the block. I removed the wiring harness just above where it's supposed to be so I could get a light and a mirror in there, but still can't see or feel it. The frustrating part is that I'm sure the rough idling, etc is the PCV...a simple replacement for about $4. But if I end up taking it to my shop (whom I trust implicitly)...gonna cost me $$$ and it might not be the issue. Anyone wanna come over and help? Beer and pizza on me! I'm near Seattle, WA.

It's a pain to get to, but doable. I had to lay across the intake. You may want to replace the grommet at the same time. Mine came off with the PCV and could not be reused.

Center of very rear of lower intake manifold.

There is a large 1/2" hose going from under the driver side of upper plennum, goes straight to the pcv. You'll need to get your arm between upper and firewall, then, feel further toward front of engine.

get your arm around the backside of the intake, you have to go in from the passenger side to get to the pcv
it has a large foam cover on it so it can be hard to discern that it is the pcv valve you are feeling
You can also remove the two 18mm nuts on your transmission mount and put a jack under the t case/transmission and jack it up until it hits the floor, this will gain you more room to work
