I am going to replace my PCV Valve. Does anyone know the proper procedure to replace it? It's not in my Chilton's manual.

If it's never been replaced, take it to the dealer and have them do it. You get a free PCV valve replacement at 60,000 miles...

on my 92 all you have to do is pull off the rubber hose attached to it, then pull out the valve replace valve and then the hose

I was wondering the same.....I am going to change my fuel filter and PCV valve this weekend. What brand PCV Valve should I get. Ive eard alot of stuff on FRAM from here..dont know if I am going to buy from them or not. Thanks.

Go to the dealer to get it changed; however, only go if your Explorer is right at 60k miles. Anything over about 61k miles, and the dealer will balk at replacing it for free. I just tried this morning....

It's about $32 to replace it with the dealer, if you get it in after 61k -- I was at 66,850.

Lucky for me, I'd broken the plastic piece on the PCV valve, so I was figuring $40 at the dealer for the part. I came out ahead, in my mind....

I already have a new pcv, and I am wondering if anyone knows where it is physically located on a 4.0 SOHC?

Thanks
Randy

scorgnetic: buy a hanes or chiltons book on your X. It has lots of useful info and has pictures to help you find what your looking for. It's a great thing to have.

Hey guy's i want to do this to anyone have pic's they can post on this procedure i am sure it would help us heap's.
thanks

I have the Haynes and its a waste of money. I gives no real detail as to the physical location of the pcv. Looks like i'll have to invest $60 on a Chiltons.

Why doesn't anyone use the search feature to find threads like this?

do any of you have an advance auto parts near you? they can tell you where it is. i know on a 91-94 it's on the top of the drivers side head and is the easiest thing to replace on the car. as for the fuel filter you need to follow a procedure used for draining the fuel. what you do is activate the inertia switch behind one of the panels and start the car till it dies. now you can work on the fuel system safely. after you are done make sure that you reset the inertia switch so that the car will run afterwards. it is still not that hard. hope this info helps!
