well, after having this set of 1500 xt's sitting in my garage for six months waiting to go on the X, i finally got motivated to do it. i had previously scavenged the relay from this set to replace the one on my 520's that went bad, now i have no relay for the 1500's! can anyone (lighting guru matt, for instance) tell me the proper power rating i need to use when replacing this relay? i really want to set this up this weekend, and i haven't been able to locate individual relays on the piaa website, so i thought i might be able to get an adequate relay at autozone. any help will be greatly appreciated!

a relay is just a low voltage switch.....

i realize that, jim. what i need to know is what voltage relay i need. thanks anyway.

i would say 12 volt

a generic one at Autozone should work.

no worries, I just used standard Radio Shack relays when I was rewiring allt he lights in my truck, mainly because I needed consistent relays and I had about 5 different types from PIAA, LOL. 30-amp 12-volt is what you need.

thanks, guys! looks like i'm headed to radio shack. i'll let y'all know how this project turns out.

hey matt--could you please give me a not too short, but not too complicated explanation of how to put the wiring together with this relay. i need to know what splices where and so forth. as you know, there are four wires going into the piaa relay and four going out. i believe the radio shack relay has only four posts on it. i thank you very much for your time.

doh! Forgot about that. For the relays that had two wires coming out of them to the lights, I actually bought the relay from autozone and it was made by ummm... hmm I can't remember, blazer I think, but it was a 5-post relay with two outs instead of one. I think you could do it with the relay you've got though, you would just have to find a way of bring the two wires together into one wire which would attach to the relay. A good way would be to get a thicker gauge wire, and then solder them together and put some heat shrink over it...

This may help...Dead Link Removed
