My first experience with an Explorer was being parked next to one at a drive in movie showing of Jurassic Park. I remember looking over at the Explorer as one was being ripped apart by the T-Rex on the screen. Made the movie a bit 3D as I imagined being in that X!

At the time I thought it would be a great vehicle for my wife who was nervous about driving in upstate NY snows but the X was way out of our budget at the time, and it wasn't meant to be.

Since then we avoided it because we didn't like the truck like ride and the lack of space when compared to the other vehicles we ultimately chose.

We owned a Freestyle followed by a Taurus X, and then a Flex. We loved them all for their spaciousness and drive-ability. While we jokingly called the Freestyle the stylefree we loved our limited Taurus X but when the lease was up, we couldn't pass up the Ecoboost Flex. It's been a love hate relationship with the Flex. We loved it's engine and gas mileage and we are part of the love it group when it comes to it's styling. Unfortunately, our Flex betrayed us mechanically, having far too many issues for us to consider keeping it out of warranty.

My wife so loved the Flex she wanted to replace it with another one but I felt I couldn't stand to see another one in the driveway. I felt we knew the car so well that we would never be able to trust the model. She reluctantly test drove the Explorer and to my great surprise, loved it. She doesn't feel she is giving anything up over the Flex, which had been her greatest concern.

So the day has come, we pick up or X today after work. 29 days from order to delivery. Here's hoping for years of happy motoring.

Congrats that's exciting! Post some pics when ya get her home... The car... Not your wife... Or maybe her too if ya want ;) jk jk

Congratulations!

Off to a bad start. Dealership screwed up. Really pissed my wife off but that's a short trip. Got there and even though they have had the car since Friday, they hadn't installed the roof cross bars or the DVD player. At first they weren't even sure if the parts were in stock. After. Heckling around they found them. They have offered to pick up the car and do the installs ASAP.

I got to tell you, they just can't seem to get their **** together. Makes it even worse that my relative owns the place. If they can't get it right for the bosses cousin, what must it be like for others.

No, I can't rate the transaction as 100% positive in your customer satisfaction survey!

On a positive not, we enjoyed our first ride in the X. It was funny watching my kids climb up into it. It rides a lot higher than the Flex did!

Wife finds the speedometer indicator layout odd in that the speeds most often traced are kind of buried. she thi is it should be rotated so tha 70 mph is at the 12:00 position rather than 100 mph.

Shomare -

Congratulations on your EX!!

I've had my XLT for 11 days (though I was gone for 3 of that) and find the same thing with the speedometer but it does get easier. You start looking in the right spot for your speed.

Happy Motoring - I'm hoping to have no issues with this one after big headaches with my 2005 Freestar SEL.

Don't worry FordMomof3, it's not like the Freestar was a Ford or anything ;)

(I hope that wasn't a jinx worthy comment, hehehe)

You better not have just jinxed this whole thing VinceL!! Honestly! ;)

But so far, I've had nothing but fun driving this thing. The headrest thing is getting better - I must be getting used to the mirror setup and the blindspots and stuff.

I'm ready to go on a big road trip somewhere...we head to North Carolina in July but that can't come soon enough! :)

Jinx?? Nah, it's not like you picked it up on the 13th or anything.....

And... Oh yeah, it's all about the road trip baby!!!

We are headed off to Atlanta in June, so we are going to break-in the Gray Ghost the right way, the only way, the road-trip way... :D

I agree! We have a mini-road trip (3 hours one way) to mid-Michigan in May - but the NC trip can't come fast enough! :)

Congratulations, Shomare! How much do you like it after two more days of driving? :D

I love to hear that you’re having fun with your new ride, FordMomof3! Maybe a sooner mini-road trip is in order? :)

There’s no need to joke about jinxes, VinceL. ;)

I've only driven it a bit since its the wife's ride! She is adjusting to it after Flex ownership. Says its apples to oranges.
