Hello everyone, im glad to be posting on this awesome forum. i just sold my 95 jeep wrangler, i got some cash left from sellin it, since i sold it for $7000, bought my explorer 1993 eddie bauer 4x4 for $3450 i got so nice cash lefted  so im thinking of 8"-10" of lift(8" skyjacker 2" body) and 35" or 36" tires, and the all new 4.88 gears, since i hear the are good quliaty

with that much lift and those size tires and those gears what will my gas mileage be?

will i loose driveablity?

will i get the so called death wobble or viberation at interstate speeds?

will the 4.0ohv be able to push that much lift and those tires?
and i would also love pictures of explorers that big thanks!

The only thing about 8-10" of lift and that size tire, is that it will look funny. Those are small tires for that much lift. I've got 35s with 6-6.5" of lift and I'm going to 37s next and not lifting it anymore.

i seen a explorer a while back with 9" of lift and 35's and it looked great, up around me, wheelin is mostly mudding and deep water, soo the more lift the better, i just dont want to loose driveablity

with a 8" skyjacker lift will i need new driveshafts

uhh ive never heard of a 8" skyjacker lift for explorers. Im running 9" in the front and 10.5" in the rear with the 5.5" superlift and 3" body and shackles. 33" tires do look small, I could fit 37's with ease. The only problem there is that the d35 IMO just cant handle the torque that 4.88's and 37's is gonna put on it (and for its size, the 4.0 has a fair amount of torque). For heavy muddin you'll break shafts everyother time out. I say go solid with a set of full width axles, then gear them to 4.56's and 37's so you'll have a good ratio to keep em spinnin fast in the muck. Cromo shafts cant hurt either Throw in a superlift and trim the fenders and you'r set to go. Oh, and if your muddin, plan on some quality lockers f/r. If its going to be a DD, look ARB or full carrier detriot trutrac. Search more, ask less.

Now to your questions.

Your gas milage will suck no matter what. (10-14mpg tops)
You will lose drivability, a SUV with 9" of lift aint no sports car.
I have death wobble at any speed over 55 lower on bad roads, so yes you will.
The 4.0 can push them, but it sure wont like it. Invest in some quality parts, valve body rebuild/shift kits (to keep the a4ld gremlins at bay), engine go-fast goodies and cromo's to keep your list of breakages low.

I'll be running 10.5" lift consisting of Superlift 5.5", 3" BL, and a 2" coil spacer and either a 2" block or 2" shackle. I plan to run 36x13.50x20 iroks. With that much lift and without cutting fenders could I go bigger?

FYI, you WILLNOT get it aligned with 5.5" superlift and 2" coil spacers. It simply will not happen. Other who say they have done it or have ran 8" coils are either full of crap or have badly sagged coils. Other than that, and w/o trimming fenders you should be able to cleap 37's maybe 38's but it will be tight. My question is, on the D35ttb, why would you?

i once saw a pic of a 91-94 explorer with 10.5" of lift and 35" tires and they did look way too small. but i've seen other similairly setup (10" lift and 35" tires) and i thought they looked good. depends what actual size the tire is and what rims u have it on and how narrow or wide it is... i guess. anyways i don't think it will look that bad. i mean i'm running like 13" of lift (yes i know its more than enough) on 35's right now. and the tires don't look too small. i'm eventually going bigger (36") which is y i have the extra lift but even if i stuck with 35's it wouldn't look bad. i bet it wouldn't look so hot if i was that tall and stayed really narrow. but the width to heigth sp? to tire size ratio looks pretty decent imo.

ok, i like the hieght of your explorer snoborder88. wow now i dont know what to do, i dont want the death wobble, i still want to be able to cruise down the interstate going 80mph with out viberations or death wobble

IMO, any explorer with 33's or bigger isnt going 80+ MPH. You have to sacrifice in some ways, if thats what you want to do then dont get a lifted truck, they just arnt made to do that. I can barely hit 75 going downhill.

i'm sitting 5.5" sus and 3" body w/ 33's. i don't think it looks TOO bad, but 35's would look better. Then again, i kinda like the look b/c to me it says, "i can still flex" rather than some 35's crammed under a chevy w/ a body lift haha

Here's Mine with about 12" of lift and 38.5"s

I go 85 no problem in mine.

Same here, ive had mine to bout 95-100 on the interstate, on 37"s, i cant really suggest this because at that speeds it was kinda akward, but it can be done.

and yes my speedo reads correctly so no one say anything bout the speedo being off.

w/3.73's? Damn, i always thought that I should have a good top speed with 33's and 3.73's but I just cant seem to make the ole girl getup and go like that, so I stopped trying. I can do 70 pretty easy, but at that point the wobble makes me slow it back down. Do you guys have problems with death wobble at those speeds.?

Edit: Just realized that froader is solid and kid is a 2nd gen. ANyone with TTB care to comment?

Micah, your truck is too slow cause you dont put down the torque with the 3.73's

I run 5.13's on small 35's and top speed is 87. truck has NO problem getting to 87, just topps out cause of the low gearing. I get just over 11 mpg on the highway. Balancing tire size with gearing is the trick. I would not even considder anything bigger than a 35 with 4.56's on the OHV motor. It just dogs, not to mention added wear on the wonderous a4ld. I also definately wouldnt go past 35's on the stock front end. The wheelbearing wear alone will drive you insane

yea I thought that was kinda funny. I have 4.10s with 33s and I can hit 85 not a problem.

On my old suburban I had 44" TSLs with 5.13s and it topped out at 90.5 according to GPS. That was with the tach on the upper part of the scale too.
