500 watts for the company's biggest baddest sub? you could get lots of round subs that will blow that away (and less $$ too). remember, they aren't sq subs so power matters...
...i wouldn't waste money on the kicker, it costs more and doesn't perform as well. i'm not saying kicker is bad, i just dont like a SPL sub that isn't built for SPL. basically it's just a sub with poor SQ...

Actually Kicker makes an SPL version of the L7. Alma Gates has 48 of them in the Big Bad Bronco now. Each woofer gets 1000+ watts RMS from a Kicker ZR1000. For pics: Dead Link Removed

Also the regular off the shelf L7's can have good SQ with the right install. Many cars have won SQ competitions with L7's including a car at the Wild West Shootout in Phoenix, AZ, which won IASCA and USAC Competetions in SQ.

With all SQ systems it is 90% install and 10% equipment in my opinion.

i saw that bronco, it's one mean truck.

what's the price on the specially made SPL solo's, you probably have to contact kicker directly and pay $$$$$$$big bucks$$$$

i have a list with the specs and prices of every product kicker makes for the 2001 model year, so they must be specially made.

so my point again is... you could get a round sub that performs much better for much less money.

the ZR1000 amp is a very good amp, but also a little ( a lot) overpriced

Terrabomb, would you trade your EARTHQUAKE sub for a Kicker????

leenjen...yeah right......

i always swore by earthquakes and i always will , they have been around for an very long time and have proven their subs time and time again, nowadays it's more of an underdog type woofer , but i can reccomend the magma series to anyone...they are some massive subs, i think when i got it in the box said 28 LBS...here are the specs : (for the 15" magma)

-Fs = 24Hz
-Qts = 0.450
-Vas = 8.7 cubic ft
-Sen = 91dB
-Four-layer, dual 3" polymide coil (2 x 3.2 ohms)
-160 Oz magnet
-SWE super wide edge, single,
-non-delaminating foam surround

I wouldn't go near pyramid anymore other then maybe to steer some little speakers , they are about worthless for subs....

i mean the guy who i sold it too got 3 12"'s (i think it 2*12" 450 maxx watts something and 1 * 12" kicker) and he can go all out, but i can't get the amp to do a whole lot with the earthquake...

btw that sub was more worth then the speakers and the amp i ssold combined, lol..i think with 240 bucks including shipping i got an nice deal on my earthquake...

i now got anoter amp in the mail and hopefully it will be in next week, i'm going to make an false floor in it and then put an PA fahrenheit 21800 in it with an stinger 2 F cap...and maybe when i feel crazy again i might buy 2 more earthquake 15"ers ...heck i got room enough in the X to do that...

terrabomb, do you have any experience with earthquake's Balls series. i have only heard the magma series as it seems to be more popular (around here anyway). earthquake has some great amps too.

btw, how much did you pay for your 15?

balls are good too , they used to be the top line untill they brought the magma's out....

i payed $ 240 ,= for it inclduing shipping...

it's MSRP = $ 499,=

shippin g is prolly not too cheap since it's 28 LBS.

actually to be honest i should have gone for the balls 15"er since i have room enough to build them into the explorer...cause they have an higher sensitivity then the magma's ...but require an bigger box to be installed....

TerraBomb,

Those are the specs for the 15? The Fs is 24 Hz. That sounds kind of high. Anyone else have their sub specs handy? I'm kind of wondering what normal is now. My a/d/s 10" are down at 17Hz. Hmm. Wierd.

well maybe earthquake changed their subs for 2001. the sensitivity for 2001 isn't 91db, it's 85db for magma 15 and 88db for Balls 15 & 18. they hit extremely low frequencies down to 10Hz

the a/d/s/ 310rs.2 has higher sensitvity (93db), but only has a frequency response down to 22Hz (very good for a 10")

they are both great subwoofers made by high end/high quality brands. i dont have the T.S. parameters of the subs, but i do have basic specs on almost all 2001 models.

The 310rs is a good SPL/SQ sub. My friend used to have one in his maxima and it sounded really good and had good SPL!

Steve

yeah leenjen i know, although most amps can barely hit that low frequency....heh...atleast the thermal protection jumps in...lol

heh i feld frequencies in the magma that i could hardly hear, but you can feel them alright...

BTW i got the specs from their site, they might have changed it, haven;t been there for an while, all i know is that they are some good woofers...i like them...the only other woofer i would wanna tryout is an MMats juggernaut....they say those are gruweling....heh

yeah, juggs are awesome spl subs. but i think you would like your magma better. the juggernaut will need a larger and heavier enclosure (really good braces). also will require more power. sure it will hit a lot harder at 45Hz and up (since it's designed strictly for spl), but i like the sound of the earthquakes better. listen to the MMATS in a demo car and you'll see what i mean. MMATS pro series is better suited for in car listening (good SQ & SPL).

if you do change your system anytime soon, be sure to post pics.

I work at an authorized dealer of Kicker and we dont have any special types of subs. They are all the same, and if you think sq sucks then you have heard those subs in a bad install, beleive me.

I work at an Authorized Kicker Dealer and there are no SPL versions of the Kicker SoloBaric Model. Do not believe what has been previously written in this post. If you dont beleive me go to Kicker's website. And Solos have great SQ, its a common misconception that SPL subs necessisarily have bad SQ, but this is not so.

that is very possible, i dont know who made the box. and i didnt do the install. i was only speaking from my experiences and reviews of what others thought. i like all quality car audio equipment, an i'm not saying kicker is bad. i just think that you can get more for what you spend on other brands. no disrespect intended. if it sounds good to the owner, thats all that matters
: )

Justin...

Are the L7's in the Gate's Bronco a custom woofer then? I dont' know too much about the kicker product line. Thanks

Steve

*Leenjen-No offense taken
*Mr Steve-No they are just regular L7's powered by regular Kicker ZR1000's

The woofers in Alma Gates Bronco are not regular off the shelf L7's; at least according to Car Sound & Performance magazine.

Quote from Car Sound & Performance magazine's April 2001 issue pages 54-55: "...48 Kicker ZR1000 amplifiers that deliver something like 48,000 watts of power to 48 Kicker L7 10-inch SPL series woofers...the truck was used to show off the company's S10L7g woofer - that's right, a signature series Alma Gates woofer!"

Sorry guys but I think I'm the right one here.

Steve

Hey what's up guys?
I've been reading along here about the l7 and I am purchasing the zr1000 in a few months, the store is giving me 450 for my eclipse 34230 so it'll only cost a 1000. Even with my eclipse amp they sound awesome though, I kinda blew a voice coil a month ago, but they sent me a new one :) I don't know why, it was my fault but i'm not gonna argue.

what are you planning on using the zr1000 for? are you getting more subs?
that's a lot of $$$ for an amp. you can buy an Orion HCCA 250G4 for less and it's capable of .5ohm mono. or an Audiobahn A2300HCX for much less and it also puts out more power than the kicker.

the kicker is a good amp, just overpriced.

I'm running my 2 L7's, I'm going with an all Kicker Setup (eventually) no more than 2 for me though.

I go by this one bar alot and some guy told me that whenever I go by the bar windows rattle :) I've never seen any of the Earthquake or magma's around here. I was going to get some Polk Momo's instead, did I make the right decision???

-LeenJen, did you do a post on the easy stuff insulation??

whos to say what's the right decision and the wrong one?
i think the kickers are better than the polk momos. it seems like nobody likes the polk momos that much. that's why the price keeps dropping, because nobody is buying them. if your happy woth the kickers, that's all that matters. just next time you plan on upgrading your system, go to real car audio shops and listen to their demo vehicles. and look at stuff that crutchfield or circuit city doesn't sell (Earthquake, MMATS, Xtant, Orion, Audiobahn, U.S. Amps, Kove, MB Quart, etc...)

do you have the 20s on yet?
