Think You are right about the distance

Hey thanks for the info on the location ...... Yeah I think you are right about the haul distance. i have travelled that far to wheel at Rausch Creek but i can get there and not have to go through the traffic nightmares around DC and Baltimore. I really dislike driving urban driving especially in the winter since all we ever get around here is freezing rain.

Maybe i'll catch up with you on a later trip.

Hey Paraphoe, put me on the maybe list list please. shocks are fine (Mom's car is bad not mine), exhaust was patched and tires are inthe mail. :)

count me in. Its only about a 35-45 min. drive for me. Where are we going to meet before we go out?

Starting to get down to the wire..... I saw we either meet up at a large gas station (wawa) or something similar, or at a walmart or something with a large parking lot. We could always fuel up before meeting so as not to crowd the gas station... So whos going to be the trail guide/ring leader?

Dan

I'm going to PM sk1er if he doesn't pop in before tomorrow to make sure he's in and able to lead us to those spots he talked about. Otherwise, we're just gonna hit the park office and go on the trails from there.

Glad to have you Josh. Andy, you're on the maybes - hopefully you can make it.

Still in as long as we're not doing it the 10th, I'm workin!

If it's cool, I might invite some co-workers, one has a Jeep Wrangler on 31s and the other has an old Chevy full size on 37s.

im a maybe to i have to pan out with what work throws at me

 6 pages of replies.... when was I gonna get an update email-- i AM subscribed.. sorry guys i thought this died, i haven't heard anything in a while

guess the mods took away my email privilege since i own a chevy now :p:

I didn't read through all the pages but I see the pole at the top. Are you guys going on the 3rd? If you are, i won't be able to make it... im chaperoning a school ski trip to the poconos (but we'll be home in time for the superbowl).

Directions are really easy to both those places in the pines though... lemme see if i can find them on a map.

Also I need to order a sensor for my shift motor (thats right, GM has issues with those junky shift motors too). I'm sure my 4x4 will still work if i need it though.

Ok below is information for Lebanon State Forrest.

Best way to access it from North/Central NJ is Rt 539 South.

The meeting point for EITHER place in the pines should be the intersection for Route 70 and Route 539.

Use maps.live.com to find the following maps. Lebanon can be found on Route 70, inbetween Rt 206 and Rt 539.

Here is the Road view; the offroad area is the green circle:

Here is the aerial view with an arrow pointing to the good offroad spot:

And finally, here is a close up of the offroad spot:
Blue arrow is a deep mud hole... be cautious when going through. If it's dry enough, stock trucks can make it through... or at least get stuck and be pulled out. If its a rainy week it can get deep and i wouldnt go through it stock
Red arrow is that awesome hill to climb- did i post the video? i cant remember
The circles are nice little mud holes that anyone should be able to dabble in without worrying too much. BUT DOUBLE CHECK AND ALWAY BE CAUTIOUS!! Don't take my word for anything, check the depth first if you're unsure!

I'll see what I can find on the other place i was talking about. It's off 539 south...

someone go to maps.live.com and try to find what i posted above since someone else will have to lead on the 3rd (if thats the day you're going)

guess the mods took away my email privilege since i own a chevy now :p:.
We've been experiencing some technical and server difficulties recently. One user said he even had to re-enter his email address in the user Control Panel in order to get his e-mail notifications to work.

yea i figured that, i got this email update so i guess its all good :salute:

btw i just found the other site off Rt539... there's no name for it so lets call it Site-X ... no pun intended :D

let me get some maps;

We are indeed doing it Feb 3rd, sorry you can't make it. We'll get to wheel together one of these days.

Thanks a bunch for the satellite images and taking the time to point everything out for us. I'll have to see if everyone wants to hit up those spots or just head right into the Pines/Wharton from a ranger station.

Yea man sorry, i feel really bad. I wanna get together with everyone to wheel.

On a side note i went to look at a house in jackson (to buy) and drove by a house with a lifted OBS explorer, they also had a tan, or silver, H3... that anyone on here?

Site-X Info

Ok, here's my directions..
Meet at WAWA at intersection of Rt 539 and Rt 70.
Head South of Route 539
Keep an eye out for the painted rock on your right. You can't miss it, it's probably painted like an American flag now, but that may have changed.
You'll then go over a very small bridge, like for a creek.
Now keep a look out for a Firetower that'll be on the Left.
Once you see the firetower, the trail entrance is next on the Left.

Here's some visuals:

And here's a suggestion that makes for a nice Looooong day of wheeling

Meet at the Wawa early in the AM; pick up some coffee and breakfast.
Then take 539 south to site-x. Mess around at site-x for 2-3 hours.
Then take 539 back up to the Wawa... pick up some lunch (don't eat it yet). Head West on 70 and hit up Lebanon. Scope out the place, eat some lunch. Then wheel for another 2 hours or so.
Then hop back on 70 West and you'll hit Rt 206 in a few miles.
Take 206 south to Wharton and wheel there for the remainder of the daylight

Worst case scenario... you have a good time at Site-X and Lebanon and never make it to Wharton. Or on the flip side; site-x and Lebanon suck and you end up at Wharton for lunch

ok,,im defanitly in,fixing my truck this week, gotta put a new 4x4 motor, and my friend is fixing my ball joints cause my passanger side ball joints are bad and with my luck ill break it out there and have to get it towed,so better to be safe then sorry, which spot are we going to?wharton state park?or one of the others?let me know thanx, didnt have enough money to get the 31's so im still on my 30x9.50x15's

As of tonight -

Fri, Feb. 1 - 48°F rain
Sat, Feb. 2 - 45° partly cloudy
Sun, Feb. 3 - 43° sunny

How does one get to rt.70/rt. 539? I know rts. 10, 15, 23, 46, a bit of 78, 80, & 287. What can I say, I'm from Morris.

You can probably take the parkway all the way south to route 9. then hop on 70 from route 9

im pretty sure that works out.....

Edit: actually it looks like exit 88 on the parkway will put you on Route 70... so that might be the best bet for you north northern NJ folks

Alright guys, I need all of your input on this. Our options are these:

1) Follow all the directions sk1er posted. Try to find those spots, wheel in each of them for a couple hours, and bounce around from one to the other until the afternoon.

2) Go straight to a ranger station/park office at the head of some trails in the Pine Barrens, get some maps, and simply head right in from there and run some muddy trials through the Pines.

These are our options, and I'm leaning towards #2 because it seems like it would be easier and more straightforward with us under a time crunch with the Superbowl at night and all. We could always do option number one at a later date in the spring when sk1er can make it and we have more daylight.

Cast your votes.

I agree, option 2 would probably be better as it seems like a lot of stock or mostly stock guys are coming along. Plus I would feel better if there was someone with us who had been there before.

I know 9!:D My grand parents live in Bayville.

It looks like (google earth) I can take the route I know to my grandparents house. Get off on Double Trouble Rd from the GSP, turn right on Pinewald Something that eventually becomes Lacey Rd/Rt530. That's if I miss the Rt70 exit. and meet you guys at that intersection some where or nearby.

This is what I pulled from google earth

Green - Looks like a gas station
Red - store
yellow - houses
Pink 1 - If I get on 70 in time
Pink 2 - If I miss 70 and have to come from somewhere by Bayville/Tom's River

Where to after this intersection?

Also I cast vote for option 2 ------Quote Hunterdan "...looks like a lot of stock or mostly stock guys are coming along"
