I need to get my body lift orderd so I can get it installed before I leave for home for college spring break. I want the guy doing it to have no problems. What exactly do I need to order. I have been looking through all the threads an get confused. From what I hear I need to order separate bumper brakets and a steering extension? What are the model #s I need for all this to work out? Thanks in advance guys.

Here is everything you'll need to know. Follow it and you'll be fine. The info is in the second post of this thread, a good ways down, called "Making a Body Lift Work on a New Model." The rest of that thread has some more GREAT information on it. Check it out.

For us '97 owners it is cheaper to order the #853 kit and then call PA (520-636-0979) and order the 883 brackets(which are 883-1(Left) & 883-4(right)) which run about $13.63 a piece.

instead of buying #883 and then the stering extention for $55.00.

as you can see below.....

27.26 -->brackets 883-1 & 883-4
137.95 -->lift kit #853
----------
165.21

50.00 -->stering extention from kit #853
144.95 -->lift kit #883
--------
194.95

----------Recap---------------
Body lift Kit #853
brackets 883-1 & 883-4
is what you will need to get to lift the body for a 1997 Explorer 3".

CBoug76

Thanks so much man, I really neede that recap after reading all the posts on the body lifts I was so confused. Where should I order the kit itself from? PA?

And stephen too, missed your post untill I just scrolled back up again, thanks again guys

IT's so close now I'm getting excited.

thanks again CBoug76. I can't wait to get all this together :bounce:

Very nice to see CBoug76 linked this thread. It is very helpful and I just completed all that work and will get pictures of my truck up when the graphics are done. IF anyone has any questions I'd be glad to help.

red96camaro:
i am about to order this kit and was wondering if you ran in to any trouble with the bolts using this kit. after searching the site i have read a few posts saying this. any help would be great

Everything went very smooth and easy, just a lot of steps. Only thing that was a pain were the bumper relocation brackets. They need to be fabbed up a bit.

What about 1996's

Is this the route I should take? I'm thinking all the Explorer's from 95-97 or 98 are the same regarding body lift instalation. Can some one just lemme know? Thanx much. I'm ready to take the plunge and give a weekend to this upgrade!

it is the same John.

Question: If body kit #853 is for a 98+ ranger, doesnt it include brackets in kit already?

Arent the 883-1 & 883-4 also for 98+ rangers?

Can someone chime in, Im about to order these 2 items for my 97 X...

Thanks

I would like to know also.

PA-883 is the 3" BL for the '98+ Ranger. PA-853 is for the 95-97 ranger (which includes the correct steering extension for the same year Explorers). The bumper brackets from the 98+ Ranger kits are needed to raise the front bumpers on 2nd Gen X's.

Hope this clears things up

Still confused.... let me ask again...

The above posts state to lift a 97 X i need to order the
Body lift Kit #853 and brackets 883-1 & 883-4

doesnt body kit #853 it include brackets in kit already?
Or these are not used?

thanks!

what are the brackets for? are they bumper relocation brackets?

It includes Bumper relocation brackets but the holes will not line up properly. You may have to redrill them, which I did.

does it include other brackets also?
Basically, I'm just wondering if those 2 parts are necessary for the body lift.

The bumper brackets included will have to be redrilled. The only ones included do not align properly. If you dont want to get them redrilled then order the separate brackets from the other kit.
