I love my X, but it seems like everytime I fix one thing something else goes wrong :banghead:. When I push on the accelerator the AC will come on if its on the AC end of the controls and heat will come out of the vents when its on the heat side of the controls, but I have the AC/Heat control set in the OFF position. When in park nothing comes out when its in the OFF position but the more I accelerate the more heat or AC comes out. Its not really a big deal comfort wise because I can just set it to the floor setting and it will just blow out of the floor, but I feel by either the heat or AC on all the time will effect the vehicles performance. Anybody had this problem or know of a remedy?

Have you had your AC system checked. Your system may need to be charged. It is a '92.

I did not think it would be a A/C problem, becuase the problem occurs with the heat as well. I thought maybe it might have been a vaccum problem but I don't see any leaks in the lines. Any suggestions?

The AC cycles with AC on and in defrost mode. To my knowledge there is no way for us to locate leaks on the AC system (none that I know of). But if your AC system isn't charged then if will never cool. Can you hear the AC compressor kick on and off?

Yes the AC compressor does kick on and off. I don't really have a problem with the air getting cold. The A/C blows plenty cold air. The problem is the A/C and Heating stay on when I have them turned off.

Gotcha! I do know my X also has hot air coming in. The dash also gets warm on long drives. I just assumes thats how it was. It's not really blowing but you can feel the air come in when driving.

Thanks for keeping up with my post. Yeah the air is blowing out of the vents as if the A/C or heat is on, thats what made me think it was a vaccum leak. I thought maybe the air pressure was not getting to the system to let it know the switch is in the off position and to cut off.

I recall reading somewhere on this web sight describing something similar and the problem involved a "mixing door" or something like that. Boy, I'm a big help. I think you are on the right track about the vacuum thing.

on our 92 X's the blower motor is ALWAYs on unless you put the top switch all the way to the left (max a/c).
Don't ask me why ----- it's just one of Fords better ideas :banghead:
And yes the A/C runs when you put the defroster on

Thanks fire and ice. When I put the A/C on max and the dail set to off. Cold air blows out of the vents. I have tried everything possible I know of. I don't know where to go from here. I replaced the heater core recently, I don'tthink that would have anything to do with it.

This one is a real stumper.

The only thing I can think of is to pull heater panel out of dash and remove the wires at the switch and see if the motor (air) stops if it does then you can be fairly sure its a bad switch
I have replaced the heater core and the blower motor i mine.
I also had a smouldering fire start because leaves got sucked into the system and came in contact with the Hot resistors and caught fire (smouldered) and blew smoke out of my vents
To say the least I was NOT happy about that :fire:

good luck
