Despite having new plugs, wires and coil pack, my #4 cylinder WILL NOT FIRE. Forgive me I am very frustrated. It is a 99 OHV 4.0 and I just cant figure out whats going on. its a consistent miss. I have pulled the plugs and #4 is covered in fuel. I cannot figure out what else this could be. Please help! Thanks.

Have you pulled the wire off to see if there is spark there?

I dont think it's the injector cause the cylinder is getting fuel. Yes I have checked all six to see if they spark and all but #4 spark.

Take the plug wire off at the coil pack and check for spark there. Did you check the end of the wire for spark or the plug? Your plug is soaked.

Isn't that the truth. I won't tell you how much that lesson cost me years ago, lol.

It could be a bad spark plug. Even new ones can fail out of the box.

Bad spark plug or not, they shouldnt have fuel on them. Its not sparking because its wet. Gas got in there by an open injector or something like that...

To be clear it's not drenched, just smells strongly of fuel. And today I replaced that plug, no dice. Sorry for the confusion there

My gut agrees with the first post by Turdle.

Did you put the new plug into the wire and check it for spark before installing it into the engine?

ok i believe i did have a stuck injector. I replaced the fuel rail, FPR and injectors and the truck has a TON more power and driveability, however it still has a slight but consistent miss. I tried new plugs after changing the fuel rail but no dice. I'm baffled. Any ideas are welcomed.

Is there spark coming from the coil pack from the cylinder that's missing?

yes i believe so. Everything ignition wise is new. and ive had two other used coil packs on there with no change. It's so wierd.

When you say "you believe so" is that a guess? If there's no spark coming from the coil pack through that wire then the problem is the plug, wire or coil pack most likely. Just pull the plug, ground it and roll the engine over. If there is spark it's a cylinder problem.

you've replaced the coil, plug, wires. I agree with checking compression. Burnt valve?

A compression check is definitely the next step, However I have done the paper trick and the exhaust doesn't inhale at all so I doubt it's a burnt valve but we will see......

It's an educated guess. I need to check it again to be honest. I will post when i do. Thanks
