...i got a number for you to call if your interested...it's over in wardell, mo..bill's speed shop might be able to help...i'm not sure how close it is to you ...;)

...i just got called back, maybe talk to them over at johnny cook's performance over in jonesboro...my uncle says it is limited in arkansas for parts so they go to tennesee or st.louis when they are down there...
...darn it, i tried, lol...:D

ha ha--i'm in a train depot parking lot in parson's KS--free wireless

Evan-did you replace that header yet? Erics pic looks a little bit more roomy--

I've been running el cheapo motorcraft wires for quite a while now--

Back in my old racing days we used a spark plug boot that looked to be some kind of ceramic stuff. It was very hard. We would cut a spool of Packard 440 wiring and make our own set of wires.
I think the name of the ceramic boots was something like Raja or very close to that. I did brief search and found nothing on them. But I did find this protective sleeve that says you can actually have this sleeve resting against the headers. Hmmm ?

Thanks, Rookie, I have that very same thing. That is what is pictured above- Its double wall woven fiberglass, they will make you itch like crazy. The one indeed rested on the headers and was not hurt, but the boot inside didn't survive.

Header not changed as of yet- too hot and muggy for me to be doing that kind of work. I'll wait a week or two and let the weather break.

I'll be running MC wires after the new header is installed, well unless James can come up with something better.

Jonesboro isn't too far from here- only an hour drive. I lived in Jonesboro for 4 years, don't remember seeing a place like that.

...i was told to give them a shot...that's all i know...sorry i couldn't get more info...most of the parts they get are north of you by a ways...

...he wasn't sure if he made them or not but he said he could probably refer you to someone...;)
...my dealings with custom wires have been mixed...finding a shop that made quality custom wires was a little difficult...i actually had a couple just fall apart...the good thing is, if you buy a set locally, they can also make you an extra one for that problem at the same time so you have a spare...they will also generally, make you just 1 instead of having to buy a whole new set if this problem occurs again...;)

I can't believe the Taylors have doubled in price in six years. I bought mine for $60 from Summit in 2001 had to replace them last year due to my own fault. I replaced the plugs and didn't realize that one of the wires were was laying against the exhaust manifold.

In Taylors defense, I'm sure they get calls all the time for someone wanting a replacement set of wires due to someones negligence. I work in the industrial hydraulic hose department at work. It is our policy that if a hose has failed with in a couple of months that we must see the hose to determine why it failed.

We will make a new hose and ship it but will bill the customer. If it failed due to an error of us making the hose assembly or in the hose or coupling manufacture producing faulty products we will then credit the customer.

You would be amazed at how many people improperly install or mis use the hose and want a free replacement.

What I'm saying is don't blame Taylor for wanting to see the wires to determine the problem. Blame all the dishonest assholes looking for free wires.

I can see their point, but I can't just pull my wires and mail em- I've got to make it to and from work. I only asked for one wire to replace the burnt one, not a whole set. I even sent them a picture of the wire :dunno:

I am with you there. I could only afford the O'Reilly's house brand wires after frying one of my Taylor's. The set they sold me had been taped up but it was the only set they had. I start replacing the wires one at a time. I get to the last one and there was a wire missing   I called O'Reilly's and they say store such & such has them. I call that store tell them the situation. I could not just get the wire I was missing from their set. I had to take all the f*cking wires off, bring them in and exchange it for another set.

well, on the bright side--
cooler weather is headed your way-
it is 75 here now--with sprinkles--ahhhhhhhhh!

you can send that weather towards the west coast i have had about enough of the heat:confused:

My recommendation although not one you will like, is to install the new header. If the problem persists I would then try maybe to put a small piece of heatshield right in the problem area. Kinda like exhaust have on them the small heatshield which is connected(tac welded) to the pipe an contours around the pipe (not completely) just partially. You will be surprised how much this will reduce the heat. I am definately not talking of some ghetto setup but something which will be contoured and functional. Form and function is the name of the game.-jh
