Thanks!

Thanks Brooklyn Bay,
Tousley Ford shows it as available!
After seeing all the posts on the door latch problems, I'll check your maintenance list again to see what I should have been doing for my latches. I must have the only 95 without that problem yet (knock wood),

I've been experimenting with several solutions for the door latch issue. I think that I finally figured out a solution, but I want to see how it is for an extended period of time before I post my solution. I don't want people to try it, and then have it fail. So far I've tried several things which were only temporary fixes, but I have something else that seems to be good. It seems like the latch on the 1995 is prone to fail. The replacements that I've purchased from Tousley which are OEM last about a week or two then fail since they are built the same way. This is not Tousley's fault since they were manufactured by Ford. They only sell them.

Sliding door latch for a 1995 Aerostar.

need to buy sliding door latch for 95 aerostar XLT 4.1 , new or used.

Welcome to this forum! I've merged your thread with this thread in the Aerostar section. The latch on the 1995 is defective. Ford won't do anything about it since they consider it too old, and not important. You could purchase a new latch, but I guarantee that it won't be any different. I'm up to my 4th latch which only lasted a week until it broke. After spending a considerable amount of time, effort, and money on a solution, I've come up with a solution on how to repair your existing latch. As previously explained in post # 57, I was planning on testing the repair a little longer just to make sure that it will work. Previous attempts didn't last too long, but it seems like this repair did the trick.

I've owned two Aerostar before my third and both had the sliding door latch problem.

The problem has been a little spring that slides off its track after many open and close cycles. The last one I repaired by bending the spring enough to create new tension. Reinstalled it and it worked fine, (to sell the van) :-))

these latches are rivetted but the rivets can be drilled out, the latch repaired, and re-sealed with flush screws and nuts.

If anybody still needs working sliding door latches, I know where there are 6 good ones. I pulled one for myself for a spare. However, I don't go to the salvage yard very often, it will need to be at my own time, but the next time I go, I'm pulling them all.

Sliding door latch availability.

Hi
Does anyone have a source for new sliding door latches?

97 Aerostar --

I have broken my junkyard find from a year ago and need another but can't find any in our local yards. A new one would be nice.

Thanks Bob

Your thread was merged with a similar one on the top of the Aerostar section. Check the list of parts sources in this thread, and the sticky thread on repairing/replacing a defective sliding door latch. You could repair the sliding door latch for around a dollar. It will be more reliable than a replacement part.

A/C hoses.

I'm new here, buy I've got a 1997 Aerostar with a 4 liter and i can't find a a-c hose manifold. I broke mine changing the radiator. If anyone knows a supplier for this part I would appreciate the info, thanks

1991 Alternator Tension Adjuster

I have a 1991 3.0, and I need the rod/bolt that adjusts the tension on the alternator position. I replaced my serpintine belt, and when I went to retighten the adjuster the top snapped off :( Have a temp fix on it right now, but it is just that "TEMPORARY".

Any and all help greatly appreciated...

Rick

WANT TO BUY. Sliding door latch for 1994 Ford Aerostar.

ThoreauOnWheels,
Jose A. reported in another thread (How To: Replace a defective sliding door latch.) that the rear hatch latch is the same as the one used for the sliding door.

I haven't taken one off yet but you may want to check that option out. The sliding door latches were missing on most of the Aerostars I found in the junkyard.

Thanks for the heads up, Jose. I'm still looking to buy a latch. Would rather buy from a friend here than a stranger in a wrecking yard.

Sorry. I should have addressed you as rv4fun, not Jose. Oops!

WTB Sliding Door Latch for 1994 Aerostar

Hey Jose A.,
I'd be interested in getting a latch (or two) from you when you make your next run to the salvage yard.

hi,
I did go to the salvage yard a while back and like rv4fun said, all the sliding door latches were gone, but at the time I had not discovered that the tailgate/hatch latch is the same, that's a recent discovery, so there must be a few latches there.

Also I have a used one with the spring problem; (the spring jumps out of its moorings), I'm going to try to repair it like BrooklynBay did and then you can have it. Send me your e-mail by p.m. and I'll send you a picture when it's done.

I have links for suppliers of new latches further back in this thread. I would recommend repairing the old latch with a bracket & screw before buying a new one. The new ones break shortly after they are installed. Jose A., please post a photo of the repair on your latch for a comparison. I'm curious to see how it will come out.
