Powder coating is a method of applying paint to a substrate with the main goal of corrosion resistance. However, technology has enabled paint developers to incorporate beauty in the process.
The result is a finish which is at least 10 times as strong as the equivalent, due to the thermal bond which develops as the metal pores "open" during the curing cycle. In layman's terms, the paint will flow deep into the surface and bond, while it is baked in.
The main reason for starting this thread is to show you why you do want this.
LAst fall I aquired techieman33's stock wheels. While he is meticulous on the care of his truck, they still showed the years of outside abuse. The factory clear coat had served it's duty, and needed attention.
Time was short, so I had no choice but to scuff and shoot them. Just a good cleaning ond no blast time.
The results were fantastic, yet the durablity had yet to prove itself.
Well, here is the proof.
Recently Sheri and I went to Ks Rocks off road park with gman and friends-this resulted in more mud than this truck has ever seen, let alone drive thru. I had the stuff caked everywhere, as you know.
The cold temps then froze it all on, and I let it go for over a week.
The truck was treated to an full auto wash with belly blaster ,go ahead and run the double please!!!
I never even wiped the wheels-as you can see in the detailed pictures-
yet they are still beautiful.
!!!!!!!!!!!!! No touch maintenance.!!!!!
The powder is still bonded after all the abuse. there are no scratches at all. even the experimental transparent black on the center caps is sticking-
I have to repeat this-
The wheels were never prepped
Here is the muddy
After auto wash
A simple wipe with a towel and done!!
