Ok, I had to take my system out of my car today because it's going into the body shop...with that said. When i went to take off the battery line i got a spark, I figured it was just a discharge, but then i touched it to metal and got a HUGE spark, obvioulsy my power line is getting constant power from the battery, other then a switch is there a way to shut the power off to the amp, or is it ok?? I'm not sure if it's just draining my battery or what, I have had it in for about 2 weeks with no problem starting the car up even when it's 5 F outside.

Thanks

Well there is probably always idle current with most electronics but said current is typically very very minimal - well except with something like the JBL A6000GTi which has a rather high idle current.

Remove the ground to prevent sparking on the power wire when disconnecting/reconnecting. Or if your amp has external/internal fusing remove that and replace when power wire is connected. My amp doesn't have that luxury-but then again it doesn't spark, class d.

Did you disconnect both terminals? The amp isn't grounded to the battery, so it'll get power until you disconnect the positive terminal.

tjm your confusing me alittle. You removed the positive power wire from the battery and still got power on the cable you disconnected? If you had the ignition on then the remote was still putting 12 volts (i know not alot) to the amp. But once you disconnected it from the battery that cable should have had no power. Also i don't reccomend removing your ground cable from the amp and leaving it hooked up to the battery as i believe dave was telling you to (again not sure if thats what he was saying either lol)

no no no, I really stink at describing stuff... I had to remove my amp because it was going in for repairs, I didn't take any wires out though i just unscrewed everything off the amp, and when i unscrewed the power wire from the amp (still connected to the battery) it sparked. I kno it's getting constant power, but is this enough to drain my battery?? if the car isn't started for a few days? I can't do nething about it now because it's at the shop...and btw mine's a class D to dave

It's not going to drain the battery since it's not connected to anything, but when reconnecing (and disconnecting) DISCONNECT YOUR NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE TERMINALS! When I take out my amp I do that and even pull the power wire off my terminal. You don't want it touching something metal while connected. Could be a very big problem.

well i had sanded down an area to bare metal to test as a ground...and the power touched that and sparked, so then i put eletrical tape over it, nothing seemed to be wrong from that though, thanks for the help
