Powertrax-no-slip question

Ok,I am going down to a place tommorrow to get a quote on powertrax no-slip lockers for the front and back.First though I think i still need to know a little more about them. How long do they last? Can I only use them offroad? When there not locked there limited Slips right? Do they engage with a switch or do I manually have to engage them?Do I engage them when I am moving or from a stop? These are some of my questions? I could use the input and experiences you guys have had with this locker in general. Thanks ,Matt

they will always be lockers.... however, they will automatically disengage on the street so you can make a turn.... you are going to have to not have a heavy foot and possibley modify your driving habits or they are going to either cause damage or injury due to a crash.... they are always engaged, always a locker... will do great offroad, and fine on the street as long as you realize they are a locker and adjust your driving style to reflect that.... you will really need to be more careful in the rain for the same reason.... there is no user adjustable engagement with them... they are automatic lockers and will kick themselves in when they feel it is warranted, your driving style will effect when the kick in..... hope some of that helped

you cant use your 4wd auto. you need to do the brown wire mod. i think GJarrett just wrote a big write up on the powertrax for the second gens its full of good info

Having a Powertrax in the rear makes the vehicle drive slightly differently on the street. The first thing you will notice is that there is slightly more play in the rear drivetrain. When it sits in part without the emergency brake on, the truck will be able to roll back and forth a couple of inches. The second thing you will notice is that you will now most likely chirp your tires if you make a sharp turn from a dead stop. The third thing you will notice is occasional clicks and clunks from the rear end as the auto locker engages and disengages. Offroad, the differences are amazing. It will now go places that you never dreamed of going before.

To put a powertrax in the front, you will need to do the 2WD modifcation that dman726749 mentioned. See Dead Link Removed for the explanation of what it does and how to do it. Once you do this mod and install the Powertrax, you won't even know it's in the front on the highway.

Cool, thanks guys. It is possible i might put the lockers in myself with some friends, but if i dont would the place I get them installed at know that u have to disable the control trac.

Probably not. I doubt there are many, if any, places around that know how to do that. Only place I've ever seen it is here on the board.

Ive decided now just to go with the rear one, but someone brought up a good point to me. Can I install the locker with a factory limited slip already in there, or do i have to have and open differential to install the locker? Thanks , Matt

Sorry, one more thing, I have the 3:73 with the limited but im not sure which one to order. Heres the site. Of course its for the Ford 8.8 but is it 28 spline carrier and what shaft is it. Could you point me in the right direction .I dont know. Thanks ,Matt
