Want to be sure... After reading my symptoms on here It seems that's where I should start.

Hi Guys and Gals,
New to the forum. Have had my 2001 Explorer sport for about 8 months and for about 6 months the CEL has been on  1000 bucks later I've had my intake manifold gaskets replaced, o2's (most of them), and a intake tube with a crack in it replaced. All was fine for about 3 weeks and now when I start her up she surges to about 3000 rpms and then bounces on idle from 200 to 900. Sometimes I hear a click and it jumps to 1100.

These symptoms went for about 2 days before the CEL came on again. I have not had a chance to get the codes read yet.

So does this sound about right for an IAC failure or should I be going back to the guy that did my intake gaskets?

thanks!

sounds like IAC...but I am guessing. I wouldnt have done the o2 sensors....as they were probably reading too lean due to the gaskets or IAC. why dont you get nan IAC out of a junkyard to test it out....or do the voltage test

Try cleaning it with intake cleaner - can't hurt at this point. Not unusual for an IAC to fail after 7 years.

i actually scrubbed mine in my kitchen sink...making sure to keep electrics dry...it succeeded in making smooth idle and no CEL for first time since I had truck. You cant go wrong trying to clean it

yea... when i brought it in, i told them the codes and to check the intake first... of course they said its DEFINATLY the o2 censors, and if it wasnt so freakin cold i would have tackled the intake gaskets...bah.

ill try cleaning it this weekend. it's not nearly as bad as it was yesterday for some reason

Might as well clean your MAF sensor too while you're in there. Takes an extra 5-10 minutes tops and usually people do the IAC and MAF sensor together...

thats the component right next to the air filter?? is there a link on how to clean that?

thanks,

sounds like the pinging could be the maf and the idle could be the iac ...

so many acronyms

Does the 2007 Explorer Sports Trac 4.6 have a Idle Air Control Valve?
