- 2018 Explorer Base 2.3L E
I have not seen anyone post this problem before. But it has happened to me in 2 Explorers, a 2014 XLT with the base entertainment system, and now my 2016 Base with the same base entertainment system.
What happens is you get in the car and there is nothing happening with the center screen. No music, no clock, no back-up camera, no phone connection. It's as if the entire thing just died. It happened 3 times in the 1.5 years I had the 2014 XLT, now, today, it has happened for the 3rd time in the 2016 that is 2 years old.
To get it to respond, I have to unhook the batter for about 15 seconds and let it "reboot." Just like rebooting your frozen computer. I have no idea what is causing it, and neither does my dealer. Since I rebooted it, it's working again, and will probably work for a few months until it does it again.
I guess when it finally won't "reboot" anymore, I'll have to have the unit replaced. The top pic is is in the "dead" mode. Bottom pic is what it looks like when you first get into the car and it's working.
