After busting a CTM U-Joint for my D-44 during the Badlands run it has finally cooled off enough for me to tear into my front end. Cool is relative though... it's "only" 91.

I started by cutting the ears off the outer axle shaft with an air powered cutoff wheel. That actually went more quickly than I thought it would. I only needed to remove the ear from one side, and the outer shaft was free. Unfortunately the inner wasn't going to cooperate. I cut both ears off the inner, but the yoke was still spread too far apart to pull it through the opening in the knuckle.

Next step was to remove the knuckle. That was an easy job despite the fact that the exposed threads of the lower balljoint stud had been pulverized by the broken U-Joint. The nut on the ball joint had to cut through the crushed threads in order to come off so it was slow and required a few doses of WD-40.

Now I've just got to order a new set of Moser axles, and a replacement CTM U-joint and a couple ball joints. Hopefully CTM will honor their lifetime warranty without a hassle.

I am sure you wont have a problem with CTM.

*I just knew you were fixing to say that "I blew up the dana 44 ujoint, so I am installing a dana 60" :)

geesh Rick I have never seen somebody have so much carnage with good parts, um well except maybe Jefe!!

I guess if you dont break it you are not trying hard enough!

The axles have been in for 6 years the CTMs a bit less. Not too bad considering how many trails it's been on in 6 years. In the same time span I've only blown one Superwinch hub.

Wow Rick, that's some good carnage there!

Any reason you're going with Moser's over other cro-mo's out there?

I've got the Superwinch hubs too and so far i've had no problems but the only thing I don't like is that there's always play in them no matter how much you snug down the allen bolts. You have the same problem or is it just mine?

wow 6 years is good for sure! I retract my statement, but when you go you go big it seems :)

I've heard the Mosers aren't good since their yokes aren't hardened the same as the rest of the shaft. On mine the 300M CTM U-joint broke without taking out the Moser yokes so now I think they're plenty strong :D Yes the yokes deformed, but thankfully they didn't shatter taking out the balljoints with them.

I have the same situation with the loose feel. That's normal for the Superwinch.

thanks for the post rick i think im gonna try the ctm u joints now that i seen some actual info on them.

edit: also can u link me to some info to how your hydro steer is set up.
