Hey guys, looking through some of the threads got me thinking about possibly swapping my t-case out for the 4406. It is my understanding that they come in the f-series pickups, and have the 2H-4H-4L which is what im looking for.
My truck is a 99 explorer xlt. Its got the 4.0 SOHC, and a 4 speed auto, not sure of the model of the trans. I think the current t-case is the 4404, which has the selector saying AUTO-4H-4L.
After a winter of screwin around in the snow and doin burnouts, the t-case is probably fried anyway. Im going to rebuild the electronic shift motor and hook it back up and see if it still works. But id rather just ditch that case.
My qusetion is what is involved in this swap? I had seen a thread with this swap, but into a 5.0 Ranger. I think he had to offset the engine because the case ended up being to close to the framerail. Is this something id have to worry about with my X and the 4.0? Would it bolt up to my transmission, or would i need an adaptor? Theres several junkyards near where i live, so im sure i can find the case and get the linkage and front driveshaft. I imagine id have to have both front and rear shafts shortened but by how much? Are there any sensors id have to get, and if so would i need to splice stuff of just plug it in? Anything else i might have to worry about?
