questions on what kinds of lockers people are using and what they think

Any one have experience with a Detroit True-Trac up front? Just curious, looking into one for my front end?

Have had it in the front of both explorers. It works great all the time and doesn't make steering a pain in any situation. Good choice, IMO.

People refer to them as trash lock for a reason. I'd spend the extra money and get something that has a good rep.

Well, we also drive Fix Or Repair Daily Exploders. All you have to do is look at any lunchbox locker (Lock Right, Quik-Lok, EZ Locker) and figure out they're not meant for big tires/big power. I have a stock 4.0 and 33s, and don't plan on anything bigger than 35s in the near future. I bought mine new for $230. The nice thing about lunchbox lockers is that you don't need special tools to install one. I've never done anything to an axle besides change the gear lube and did it fine. A shop around here would have charged about $250 labor to install a diff and set the gears up again (which you would have to do with any other kind of diff, no gear worries with lunchers). It all depends on your intended uses.

Just my $0.02.

Get the Aussie Locker -- its simple and cheaper IMO.
I know mine was working when the locker gladly pointed out the weakness of a stock d44 :D :

ok, well, I have never seen an add or even heard of an aussie locker anywhere but on here. what is it and who makes it and how much do they run for a 8.8 31 spline?

Unfortunately the aussie 8.8 has been back ordered forever, and they don't know when it will be available again. I would like to put in an aussie. But I don't want to wait. $ wise I was thinking either a Detroit E-Z Locker or a Lock Right. Are the Detroit's stronger? Both are pretty much the same price.

i think full spools f/r are your best option for strictly street driving.

You twinkle above us - we twinkle below :D

since the Aussie Locker is always back ordered look into lockrite they are great off road and a 5 out of 10 on road.

Like I said above, my Ex is my daily driver and I have a Lock Right in it. Cost $230, installed it myself (no gear setup to worry about), does fine on road and great off. Don't be afraid...:p:

If you want all of the above but better street manners look into the Powertrax No-Slip. Same thing, more streetable, but also about $200 more.

Powertrax No-Slip here. It was great on the street

I'd consider going with a spool in the rear. They're cheap and they're alot stronger than the other lockers out there. I've heard of a couple of people that have blown up a lockright and it took out the entire rear end. Granted I have a lockright in the rear and have been running it for about 4 years now. The only time a lunchbox locker is unlocked is when power isn't applied (ie coasting). You mostly want it unlocked when you're turning, but most of the time you're on the gas through a turn.

I don't mind driving with the lockright on the street but the truck will veer off to the left when I get on or let off the gas. it'll occasionaly slip a gear and the truck will veer on it's own. I've only has this happen once but when there is very little traction I actually had my locker unlock and not spin either tire. I don't remember what I did to remedy the problem but it hasn't happened since. A spool on the road would act much more predictably and wouldn't affect handling nearly as much.
