I can get 1" Body Lift block for $1 a peice and I was wonderign what else would need to be done with a one inch lift. Can I reuse the stock bolts? If no, then which ones need to be replaced and what are the bolt sizes? Will I need to lengthen the ground strap and drop the radiator shroud as well? I'm planning on doing the lift next week and I want to make sure I know what I'm doing. Assuming everything works out, the lift should only cost me about $15 and I plan on doing a write up w/ pics. Also, does anyone make a steering stabilizer for 2nd Gen explorers? I'm intrested in getting one. Thanks,

-Justin

with one inch...you will stil have to drop the radiotor and fan shroud. At least it looks like mine would. the fan will probably hit the shroud if it isn't moved back down. Some bolts would be able to reuse probably have to buy a few. I don't know what length...just 1" longer than stock. might have to redo the ground straps as well. Question....why 1" other than getting the blocks for cheap? What are you planning on running with it?

I'd get all new bolts. Wouldn't want to worry about them not having enough threads through the mounts.

Drop the radiator and fan shroud.

Ground straps on the frame you just move up. Under the hood it might have enough slack, just keep an eye on it. Also, remember the engine does move, so it needs to have slack in it.

No steering stabilizer. You've got rack and pinion steering. :)

you'll still need bumper brackets, or they will sit 1" lower.

I went 3" on mine.

Had to get all new bolts (w/nuts) and drill the threads out of the mounts. Grade 8 by the way.

Lowered only the fan shroud, I left the radiator where it was.

Of course I had to get under there and man handle some of the tubing to curve it here and there around the pulleys in front.

Oh, and I notched the bottom of the shroud so I didn't have to make the bends too sharp.

Everything else worked out for me- steering fine, ground straps fine relocated to another available bolt, all tubing and hoses fine.

It doesn't seem like you would have to drop the radiator for only an inch, would you? I wouldn't anyways! :D As far as bolts, you could reuse some of your stock ones (because they are of different lengths). I think there is a list of stock size bolts on this forum somewhere. Just add an inch to em.

cdsl227- Did you not use a steering extension for your lift?

No, actually there's a universal just inside the cab side of the firewall and the outside is something of a splined slip shaft.

It went no problems at all! I was kinda amazed, cause after reading some of the posts I was ready to start looking for something to extend, but didn't need it.

It was a little stiff at first, but after 40K miles it's beautiful! I lucked out.

Basically a 1" for two reasons. A) Price and B) I cant fab too well. I could understand the new bolts for certain reaons, I guess will have to see next week. I'm not too worried about the bumper sitting 1" lower. My X is 2wd and for soem reason I just want the extra inch and since ill be sitting on my ass on srping break, i figured it will at least give me something to do. I'm running 31's right now, but they will go up to 32 later on. First rpoject is mounting my new roof rack and lights :c ) then on to the BL.
