Radford's 01 Ex sport on 33s pics are up !

most guys w/o a rear receiver will just put a clevis through the hole that is already in the bumper for a tow ball.

once again guys I HAVE A 3INCH BODY LIFT MY BUMPERS ARE NOT MADE TO TOW FROM .... sorry but ive said it a few times and thats my real problem here. my bumpers are held on by merely 2 bolts instead of the usual 4 and the brackets would make it unsafe as it is... but that is my problem anyone have pics of rear tow hooks?

Do you not have a rear hitch? If not, get one, and use that as the rear tow point. It's by far the best option.

I would agree with J602, if it wasn't for two reasons. One, it limits your departure angle(unless you have a bumper with a receiver hitch built in) and two, it looks fugly with a body lift (unless you pull out the welder and raise it up). I'd go with some tow hooks like you said.

It looks like it's on a Wrangler, but it'd probably be similar for yours.

Here's a pic of some d-rings on the front of an X. Maybe you could do something similar to the rear?

Damn how did they fit D rings straight on the frame?? I looked all over for ones wide enough to just slide through a hole on the frame rail.

Must not have looked hard enough. :D

guys all i see was a pic of a tow up put on at an angle is that ohk to do ? i thought they had to be straight parrallel to the ground? i just heard it wasnt safe to do that but if it is i will be doing it today...

I think the reason that the first pic has it facing down is just because he didn't have the frame room to mount it parallel to the ground. It might put more stress on it, being mounted that way. If you are sure that you can't put them on the bottom of the frame, or on the side (but parallel), then I'd either get the d-rings (if there's a place to mount them) or mount them like in the first pic. :)

You need to right click the second pic (if you still can't see it) > Go to properties > Copy the address (URL): > Paste in the address box at the top of the page. Basically, he just took a d-ring and put it through the frame.

I measured the front framerails last night. They're about 3" wide. So unless he bent the rings out, or ground off the frame, there's no way in hell any type of off the shelf D ring is going to fit through there.

Yeah, gotta agree with you on this one. No where near close! http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-shackles.htm

Not to mention the fact that if you did find one, it would cost a crap load more than bolting on some tow hooks.

Yup. I'm getting weld on D rings. :D

hey guys i know the rear of my explorer is a C shape frame and its about 1.5" wide at the bottom of the C. i think if you had a wide opening d ring not even a full inch wide you could slide it horizontally on the frame then slide up andwith the loop part of the d ring would be enough to clear the 1.5" wide frame rail...thats kinda hard to explain...haha and then youd have to have the hole high enough to let the D ring hang properly without rippin out the bottom of the frame....

so what kinda weld you need for those i might have to get those... is it safe to weld that on to tow from...

I plan on using my MIG to weld them on. Just make sure to have a good solid bead on them. I got the idea from Cable Guy on this site. He said he hasn't used them yet but they seem pretty strong.

this is what i did in the rear also and so far no problem with it, i am going to uwharrie this weekend so it will be more of a test there. keep the little bracket that come with the tow hook on cause it makes it easier to keep the strap on

I'm thinking of doing something like that on mine (easier for you though, because of the BL) so that I can remove the hitch and just put a ball in the bumper. I only tow a 5x10 trailer with either a couple of dirt bikes, or lawn mowers. So now, departure angle is better than a hitch. :D

well guys i think im going to put my hooks on at an angle like that hopefully it will hold up ...

Yeah, as long as you aren't REALLY stuck and needing some major snatching to get out, all should be well. I just pulled off my hitch and got back from the 4x4 shop with some tow hooks. I'll probably put mine on at an angle as well. Just gotta find the spot where it would be out of the way of the shackles and bumper, and still accessible for a strap.
