ranger/bronco II transmission swap

i'm a newby so hi everyone. hope someone knows. i've tried everywhere. a friend wrecked a 1987 broncoII and i bought it for the 5 speed trans. i have a 2.8 1984 ranger i want to put this tranny in. the bronco II was a 2.9. should be the same? the bronco's trans is about 2" longer and doesn't look like the shaft is going to go into the pilot bearing? will these interchange? what has to be swapped or done to get this 5speed in this ranger? still hoping - thanks Mr.steve

yes both transmission should have the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing but they may different transmissions hopefully someone else will chime in with more info. Also are both 2wd or 4wd?
