I rember these guys from Best of the Desert!!

Those jerks didn't listen to me and offer a V8 :(

Still a HUGE improvement.

ps... When is the event this year. I rember last year it was right before SEMA.... should be about time. I WANA RUN THEIR TRACK AGAIN!! :)

I saw that article this morning, I think it's great that Ford is finally catering to the off-road community, even just a little bit. I may have missed it, but did the article say when it would be available? I am most certainly looking forward to it. Looks like Ford is finally listening to the performance oriented consumer again. Just look at the new vehicles they will be releasing in the next few years: Focus SVT, Mercury Marauder, Mustang Mach 1 (with a possible Boss 302 on the way according to Motor Trend- woo hoo!!!), and now this. The FX4 sounds like it will be a sweet vehicle, now they just need to let the SVT people loose on the engine and it would be perfection.

sweet... if i ever get rid of the X i am getting a ysed one of those.... :)

I don't get it. So it's a ranger with skid plates, tow hooks and 31's stock. What's so wild and crazy about that? I really don't see that catering to the off road type people.
Pete

pete, its got a manual tranny and transfer case and it has a torsen limited slip.....that truck is bada$$

The point isn't that it is awesome in and of itself- it's the idea that the factory is finally listening to enthusiasts (occassionally) and making more specialized vehicles. Basically, the exciting part is that it is a step in the right direction.

I'm just happy to see that Ford is putting manuals back into the Ranger. I hate the pushbutton x-case, auto hubs, etc. The way I see it Ford has taken a big step in the right direction.

I gotta think that we are in a small part responsible for this by inviting Ford out to the first Truckhaven and Moab runs. They rode with us, and asked us what we would like to see in future vehicles.

I, too, am glad to see Ford is listening to its customers. This might only be a small step, but it is a step in the right direction.

As for the V8 in the Ranger - the insurance industry has requested that Ford not do that. Not surprised, actually.

I wonder if the new T-case uses gears instead of chain like the auto one... I wish they had a Sport FX4.. ;)

Geez my '93 Explorer came from the factory with a 5speed manual, manual transfer case and manual hubs. No one made a big stink about that at the time... maybe they should have.

What was the last year that was offered? Did you special order it? I bought my X used in '93 when I lived in Yuma, AZ. and all the new X's were auto's.

'94 was the last year you could get them like that. Mine was on the dealers lot exactly how I wanted it. Stripped down. It also had manual roll up windows, and manual door locks. The only extras was A/C and an AM/FM stereo.

They didn't call it a "sport package" they called it a "basic" package. Now almost 10 years later it's suddenly a "sport" pacakage. Go figure.
