That's not really fair...how could I have caused my guidelines to vanish? Now I'm told it's $450 to replace the camera
I'm at 185000km

You didn't do anything to cause them to disappear. Things wear out, break or just stop working, just like any part on any vehicle can.
See this post for what the member paid to have his camera replaced; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/back-up-camara-replaced.410804/
Some members have bought a replacement camera and installed it themselves.

Few weeks ago, I purchased a 2016 Explorer Limited with 18K miles. Immediately following the purchase, I noticed that the rear-camera 'guidelines' were not displaying when I was in reverse. The vehicle/camera settings indicated that the 'guidelines' were enabled. This got weirder when I took the Explorer to the dealer for the missing 'guidelines' repair. After 3 days, they contacted me stating that they replaced a rear-view camera; however, the 'guidelines' (active or otherwise) were not factory offered on my Explorer Limited. I tried to object telling them that they are referring to the Active Park package and active guidelines vs any guidelines to no deaf ears. Bottom line, I'm back to square zero - no guidelines, new rear camera, and dealer telling me that's the way the car was configured at the factory. I don't believe that AND NEED YOUR OPINION and hopefully suggestion for the next steps. Thank you in advance!

So it sounds like you don't have active park assist....is that correct? The explorer doesn't have active guidelines unless it has active park assist.

Correct, I don't have active park assist and active guidelines. What I'm confused about is why I don't have fixed guidelines. Shouldn't fixed guidelines be visible on my rear-view camera when I'm in reverse?

One more point, when the rear-view screen appears while I'm in reverse, I am noticing that (+) ZOOM bottom doesn't do anything - other than to hide the sensors' icon. Not sure if that's relevant or not, but should I assume that there should be a ZOOM-IN option?

Not sure how to attach pictures. Can you please provide instruction?

Not sure how to attach a picture or two. In the absence, the fixed 'guideline' grid (red, yellow, green lines and black center line) is not displayed when I'm in reverse. All I see on the screen are: 1) 'Zoom In' icon in the left quadrant of display; 2) 'Please check surroundings for safety.' message; 3) Car with Sensors ICON in the right quadrant.

Welcome to the Forum.
When a rearview camera is replaced, the dealer has to set it up and configure it to your vehicle. Do you know if they did that? You don't just replace the camera and say. that's it. Might be time to educate the dealer?

Yes they did. But once they performed setup/configuration, they told me that my particular VIN will not have fixed guidelines. I'm confused why that would apply to my VIN.

They all have fixed guidelines...go to a different dealer.

I find that very strange. The Manual states there a 3 types of guidelines. Active Guidelines (if equipped), Fixed Guidelines and Centerline. Only the Active ones are shown as "if equipped" because the vehicle must have Active Park Assist to show them. The other two are standard.

Going to a different dealer on Monday. Anything I should tell them or hint at?
Have them check to ensure it is configured correctly and please report back. Thanks.

I know I'm jumping into the conversation rather late, and I apologize, in advance, for repeating something if it has been mentioned before. I tried to read my way through the previous comments and responses, but simply did not have enough time to make it through them all.

I, too, am having the same problem as many above - my camera and senors work just fine, but the grid lines no longer appear (mine is a 2011 Explorer with the non-active grid). Up until recently, the grid system operated just fine. I saw a lot of previous comments and responses where people indicate they began having this problem after having a component replaced (whether by a body shop and/or a Ford dealership). I, however, have not had any component of my rear-view camera system replaced or directly, negatively affected that I am aware of. The grids simply just stopped appearing one day, and yes, I have confirmed the setting is set to "on." I have also confirmed the software is up to date, and I occasionally witness the system perform "automatic maintenance" as normal. The zoom feature works fine, too.

I hesitate taking it to a dealership as I am rather confident they will not be of any help. I find most dealership service advisers and mechanics really don't know what they're talking about/what they're doing, and I usually have to advise them myself about something (keeping in mind, I teach elementary school; I'm not a professional in the auto industry). Contacting Corporate occasionally helps, but I have not yet tried that for this situation.

Any suggestions? Did I overlook comments that relate to my specific situation? Perhaps it's time to request assistance from Corporate. Thank you, in advance!

The most common cause of missing guidance lines after the camera has been replaced is that the tech did not program the new camera to the vehicle. Have you tried turning the setting OFF and back ON? If that doesn't solve it you can always try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10 minutes or so and then reconnecting it. Be aware that this sets everything back to factory settings and you will lose saved memory. I doubt a Master Reset would work but you could always try that first. I think that you should contact either the FordService rep here via a PM or the dealer first. Why jump to Corporate if no one else has even had a chance to diagnose it? That would be one sure way to upset the dealer.
I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones. The advisors and techs at my dealership are first rate in my book and that includes my salesman. At least they have been for the past 7 years.;)

Thank you for the response, Peter!

I have actually tried both - turning off/on and a master reset - without any luck, unfortunately.

I'll try contacting a FordService rep here - I'm brand new to this website, and didn't know you can do that! I am glad that you have had good experiences with dealerships. I, unfortunately, have not, but certainly hope this isn't a regularity. I just always find that I get talked to like I am an idiot, and have to be on top of them or things don't get done right. I usually have to bring my car back because something was done incorrectly and/or poorly, too.

Thanks, again!

We purchased this vehicle in November. All options were working perfectly. In January the backup active and fixed lines disappeared and by the middle of the month the camera stopped working and the screen said to take to dealership. So I did. I noticed that when I would run my vehicle Health report there where two Field service actions: one for the APIM and one for the EPAS Steering Efforts. I talked with the dealership about those as well as the backup camera. They reprogrammed the module and it got the camera to work again but still no active or fixed backup lines. They said they thought it was the APIM and they would call me when the part came in to fix it. I waited two weeks and called them and they scheduled for it to be replaced. it was replaced and the camera worked but still no lines. They said they had an email into the main company and would let me know when they heard from them. I waited 3 weeks and in the meantime my camera quit working again for a week and then magically fixed itself and was working. I got it back into the dealer and got it back today and they said that Ford Discontinued the active and fixed backup lines. All they did for me was reprogram the APIM with the latest software and cited that it was working as designed. I now have no options for active or fixed guidelines. Is it possible that they are programming it for a lesser model or that they replaced the APIM with one that is for a lesser packaged model? Did Ford discontinue the lines? Any suggestions on how to handle this problem or what is going on with this would be helpful.

Okay, here goes the obvious question. Are the guidelines set to ON in the information display?
Usually after a camera is replaced the camera has to be configured to the vehicle. Although yours wasn't replaced, do you know if they checked or did that procedure? Active and fixed guidelines are still being used. They have not been discontinued. I believe that the 'Active' ones are still only available in Explorers with Active Park Assist.
Given the year of your Explorer I think you are going to end up having to replace the camera. Many posts here about 2011/2012 failures. Good luck.
