I am having a problem with rear driveshaft
If anyone have full compression length
and the full opened

Because right now I'm sitting on a three in body lift with rough country lifted leaf springs and a Soa in rear

So I think i have to find or get a new rear driveshaft

Because twice today the rear driveshaft fell out because it was fully extended and right now is in a sling under the truck

NOT FUN

Come on guys someone got to know the stock length rear driveshaft

i had mine extended 3'' might be a little long but works well.i have soa,aal and a 3" body lift

Do what I did. Get your drive shaft professionally lengthened. Cost me $100.
Remove the drive shaft and measure from Flange to Flange. Send drive shaft to your nearest driveline shop.

That's what i did.3" longer

Yeah I saw that! and that is quite a difference. Before I got mine extended I found a driveshaft at the Junkyard with a CV joint in it. Had the extended. Works perfect. Before that I had the solid driveshaft with a spacer to compensate.

Yea think we was talking about it one day but forgot to look at it.you have a pic?i would figure it would be weaker tho,but Idk because i have one in the front

It does have a smaller diameter. And I believe I misspoke. The original driveshaft also had a CV joint, but only had one U-Joint at the Transfercase flange. The one I have in there now has a double cardan unit in it. Got rid of some driveline vibrations. Sun is still out, i'll try to get a picture.

1996 Explorer Sport.

A driveline shop can convert a driveshaft to double cardan also. Cost about $350 though.

To answer the original question: The only measurement the driveline shop will need is the flange to flange measurement. They don'e need extended vs compressed.

I also have a driveshaft spacer for sale if anyone needs one

How much? I have a ~6 inch suspension lift on my explorer, and I haven't had any problems with the driveshafts yet but I can see that they are extended more than I would like them to be.

I didn't know they made spacers

They are made for ford mustang but can be used for the explorer.
The spacer and bolts 45.00 plus shipping
I run one on the back of my transfer case and have had no problems into doing this mod

Yep they work very well. I had one on my truck for years. But wanted a double cardan. So when I took the junk yard axle to the shop for rejuvenation I had them extend it also so i didn't have to use the spacer.

Whole driveshaft or just the DCJ?

I get that it's OK, and will work, but can I use just the joint with my current driveshaft, or is there something unique about the driveshaft you pull it from itself?

You have to use the whole driveshaft and have it extended
