Recommendations for electric fan for a 5.0

The auxiliary a/c condenser fan - also a Derale 10" screwed to the core support using metal straps. It's a little easier to see than the tranny one. When you turn on the a/c, it engages a relay to run the fan at 100%. This really helps keep the a/c cool in stopped traffic on hot, sunny days.

for my 94 xlt a guy at 4 wheel parts suggested that an 15" fan like off of a ford aero star would work fine! he said its almost like the fan in the 5.0 mustangs! i think its time to head to the junk yard!! much cheaper then getting a flex lite the kits run alot and you can get a fan and wire it your self!

read up man, the 3.8L Taurus fan is the best bet from the junk yard.

Glaciers link has good info on it, even if you use something else.

Here's one about a Mark VIII Install
As deep as the Mark VIII fan is, I know that there's not enough room for it on our 4.0 1st-gen Exploders; however, you could check to see if you have clearance for it on your 5.0 model.

hey 410 how about this how common is the fan that comes out of the 3.8L will that be hard to find?

IN CA I found everything hard to find. It just depends on your area and local yards. In CO I would know exactly where to go to get this fan for about $10-15 right now, but then I frequent the yards.

Check Ebay, check your classifieds for parting out, but the Taurus is a pretty damn popular car. not sure what years had the much sought after 3.8L and fan, but I am sure the answer is on the web somewhere :)

I was never able to keep my OHV 4.0L cool with any electric setup I tried (that would fit) but only because I am 4wd, it would heat up no matter what when crawling in 4 low.

well i would only been high way driving with it! maybe a lil trails when i go camping or something. so your saying that i shouldn't do that cause it will over heat? i am also thinking about adding a scoop just for looks and maybe keeping the top end a lil cooler! maybe i will post a pic on the scoop that i have!

Many people have been able to cool the OHV 4.0L with an electric fan, especially 2wd trucks.

I was not able to and went back to the mechanical fan and clutch.

i have the 4wd! but i am treating it like a 2wd right now! a shop had told me that my limited slip in the front end is messed up! if you would liek to discuss my front end let me know and i will start another post on that 410~

I have $100 says you dont even have a limited slip front end.
Your cooling system better be up to par before you even think about going electric, especialyl in the desert we call CA

as far as the cooling system what do you mean? i have replaced the thermostat like less then a year! also put a new radiator in it! what else could you mean?

thats about it, besides the age of the waterpump and condition of the hoses. :)

the hoses are no issue i consistanly check thoes for cracking and wear and tear! its just finding the fan now! so would you like to further the discussion on my front end with me ??

start a new thread and everyone can add in.
You also should use the search button ALOT before you start a thread.
I still do.

Many of the answers/info you need are right there waiting to be found.

For those of you having cooling problems with your 4.0 and an electric fan you might also look at upgrading your radiator. In my 94 Ranger I switched to what Ford called their super duty radiator for around $160 from a local radiator discount warehouse. It's a 2 core aluminum and it makes a HUGE difference.

Here's the stock 4.0 radiator that was in my Ranger next to the 2 core.

Here's another of the two

The only difference was the angle of the lower radiator house.

That was easy though. The auto parts store had a hose for it. This might not apply to you Explorer guys though, perhaps your Explorers already have these radiators in them? For me it was a direct swap.

Thanks
Malcolm

Every Explorer I have ever seen has had the 2 core unit, stock.

My understanding (which could be misplaced) has for years been that the Super Cool radiator pictured above, is a 3-core radiator. And yes, every Explorer I've ever seen had a 2-core stock.

nooo ONly some first gens had the single core pictured on the right, the one on the left is the suerp cooling unit and is a two core.

I thought the same thing for a long time, that it was 3 core, but I was wrong :)

Next step is to make sure you also have the 11 blade nylon fan, not the earlier 10 blade. Usually they are cracked around the hub anyways and the part is like $35 at ford

Just buy a flex 150 and be done with it, unsubscribing, useless thread IMO
