Removed shift motor-ok to drive?

Due to a bad GEM, (95xlt) In order to get low range I removed the shift motor so I can switch range on the transfer case by hand. It switches surprisingly easy and I am able to go between hi-low rang with no tools. I am worried about it while driving though having nothing holding it in hi range. I drove it about 30 miles and it seams fine. Also, if it was to switch it would hit neutral before low range so it should not be a huge problem.
Just wandering if while driving with torque applied to the gear could move it or if its pretty well locked in.

several members have not had a shift motor for years, they shift from 2wd to 4hi and 4low with pliers

Dont worry it will stay in place

I cant believe you can turn yours by hand with no tools?

Yea no tools.. May have somthing to do with mine being a manual trany. Once I get it in neutral it turns easy.

On a 95 the shift motor only chooses hi-low range and does not engage or disengage the transfer case.

95 shift motor has two positions, 4hi and 4low?
so your truck is AWD then.... I see

You'd have to have HULK hands to turn my shift motor selector shaft..

No. it is 4wd..On a 95 the shift motor selects range only. The Transfer case coil clutch engages and disengaged the front drive shaft. On the selector knob in the truck has 2wd/ 4wd Auto & 4wd Low. (no option for 4wdHi) I use the brown wire mod to engage the tcase giving me 4wdHi. (bad GEM)

Actually, I can turn the range selector very easily. Just thumb and index finger is all it takes.
