Ok. Well, I ended up getting it out. I'll write a brief "how to" for those that may be searching looking to try and do this in the future.
Tools that will be needed: socket wrench with full set of sockets. Some Torx bit wrenches (you only need one, for the front drive shaft, but I don't remember the size. Probably good to have a set anyway) extensions for your wrench. Probably need a few of them and a swivel head would also help. Breaker bar, pb blaster or liquid wrench or some type of penetrating oil.
Most of the bolts will probably be rusty, so hit them the night before with lots of pb blaster to try and get them ready.
Drain transfer case.
Remove little metal guard under the car. Should make it easier to get to the transfer case later.
Remove rear drive shaft bolts on both sides of the drive shaft. It probably wont just fall off, so give it a few wacks with a hammer around the ends. It should come down after a#
few blows. If it doesn't, use a bigger hammer.
Remove the bolts holding the front of the front driveshaft. It's held in by a little brackets.
This is where you'll need the torx head wrench. Remove the the rear bolts from the front drive shaft. The drive shaft has a little flex to it, so you may need to finagle it out a bit.
Remove bolts the bolts that hold the transfer case to the transmission. There is a rubber line that goes to the trans. I found it easier to remove after we were lowering the t-case down.
Support the transmission with a jack, and remove the transmission support mount.
Remove exhaust piping from the left bank. The exhaust from the right bank can stay on. O2 sensors will just unplug.
Remove electric plugs from the transmission. The park, reverse etc selector can just be slid
off the trans.#
Remove inspection cover from front of trans so you can access the torque converter and flex plate. Remove nuts that hold the torque converter to the flex plate. You will need to spin the motor in order to take off all the bolts from the torque converter. You can do this by putting your breaker bar on the crank bolt. 24mm socket if I remember correctly.
Remove bolts around the transmission. There is 6 of them. This is where the extensions come in handy. You should be able to get 4 of them from the sides relatively easily. The 2 are a little more of a pain, but can be got from going behind the trans and using extensions on your wrench to reach the bolts. Lower the trans down with the jack to make it easier.
Get ready to lower it off the motor. Your done.
This is how we did it. If I missed something, sorry. It was midnight when we started and 5 am when we were done. Just a basic write up anyway.
