My question is, how difficult is it to replace fuel injectors on a '98 4.0 OHV engine? Is anyone familiar with a write up? Any special procedures I should know? Any common mistakes?
Thanks
Pat

I don't own a 4.0 OHV, but most fuel injectors are held in place by the fuel rail. The injector seals to the fuel rail and engine through the use of O-rings. The fuel rail is what supplies fuel to the injectors and is held in place with small bolts. Simply remove the bolts and pull up on the fuel rails and it will pull off of the injectors, or the injectors will come out with the rail. Be sure to install new O-ring seals with the new injectors,

Tip: To release the fuel pressure from the rails before removing, pull the fuel pump relay with the engine running. I like to lubricate new O-rings when installing to make sure they seat and seal easily.

What factors have led you to the possibility of taking this direction?

This, however I have a hard time getting the injectors in and out. Not sure if it's just my truck, or all cologne engines. But I have to use way more muscle than I should

FLat head screw driver and pry them out being easy on plastic on injector. Wiggle and pry and different spot. Then kneel or stand on/in engine bay and pull up with both hands and wiggle. That's how I got mine out twice

Where are you putting the screw driver? Prying against a gasket surface is a bad idea

I did this job last year. Not particularly difficult, but there
are a couple tips. As was stated, lube the o-rings with a
light grease to make them easier to seat. Also, install the
injectors in the fuel rail first, and then press the rail into
place.

I found the engine to run much smoother with new
injectors.

Take some high pressure air to the area around where the injectors seat before you remove them. Not good having some dirt/crud fall into your intake ports via those holes.

I don't see how you could pry against the gasket surface of the injector or intake manifold. Its on top of manifold and plastic bulk that's square and sticks out above injector gasket surface of oring
