Well, we're trying to get our act together and get that ole F250 in working order again. Heres a quick rundown of what its got:

400 cid Ford engine
3/4 ton
Dana 44 solid front
Dana 60 rear
Aftermarket headers (had some stock, but were replaced with these, dont know brand)
Dual glasspacks
Full time 4x4
It has a service bed on it, the kind that has all the tool boxes and stuff, with a crane on it
Air tank
Reverse lights
Pillar mount spotlights
PA system
3 CB's
2 sets of square aux. lights
And a few more extras.
I had the transfer case and trans. model wrote down somewhere, I'll have to find it.

The body is rusting pretty bad, especially the hood. The doors are pretty bad, as well as the inside panels, so those will prolly just be replaced. The fenders, hood, and bed will be sandblasted and painted back to stock (brown), the trim might need to be refinished, the wheels will need to be re-chromed, new tires. Currently its running mostly worn out 33's, old style mudders. Thats what I like the most, it can run 33's without a lift :) I think with a 3" BL and maybe some trimming (or maybe not) it can run 35's. Me and my dad both want some Swamper TSL's. We're having a tough time finding the right header gaskets since these are aftermarkets.

So far what I've seen that we need is new bushings all around, new door panels inside and out, I think a whole new set of gaskets for the entire engine wouldnt hurt, dad sez a new carb, new battery, new shocks, the dash is cracked in a couple places from the sun, the rubber floor cover type thing needs replaced, I think the AC needs some work, possibly a new alternator, we're gonna flush the gas and drain the oil tomorrow, replace the U-joint for the rear driveshaft (which I pulled by myself today, I was proud :D ), get a new oil filter, the gas gauge for one of the tanks dont work, there will need to be some wiring work done. That sums it up pretty good I guess, it'll be a project, and I predict it will take a while to get done.

Right now what we're looking to do is just get it in good enough condition to have it run reliably. To do that we'll take off the crane, which is an extreme load on it, its setting on the overload springs, try to fix the header gasket problem, if it cant be fixed, new headers. We'll prolly go ahead and have the rims re-chromed before we get new tires, and if we do get the 35's, a lift will need to be done. Prolly want new shocks, the master cylinder for the brakes needs replaced, one of the rear drums is blown out. Paint will come later. Might want to replace the glasspacks. Really need all the wiring done. We'll have to see how it all works out. This will just be a casual project, work on it when we get the time, so it will take a while to get it fully restored, maybe not that long just to get it road worthy again. Dad has also been hinting at swapping out the 400 for a 460, but I doubt we'll mess with it. I sorta want to use this post as a log to show the progress it is making, and maybe for input from others, ideas, questions, etc. More tomorrow.

Today I replaced the U-joint and U-bolts in the rear axle and got the driveshaft re-installed, but that was about it, never got around to changing the oil. All we need now is a whole fluid change, some new gaskets, the master cylinder for the brakes, tires, some good carb cleaning, hoses and belts, a little wire work and it should be a good reliable truck again.

If you are having trouble finding gaskets for the headers you might want to try contacting Sanderson Headers, I know they should be able to help you out. Another thing you can try (untill you can find the correct gaskets) is to use a set of stock manifold gaskets and put some Permatex Ultra Copper RTV (orange tube) on both sides of the gasket before you install it. I have done this on several vehicles and it isn't a permanent solution, but it will last for a while.

Thanks for the info Mike! I appreciate it. Do you have a website or phone number for them? I'd like to get in touch and see what I can find. Thanks again,

Grant

Found this old thread, and thought I'd update:

Everything is pretty much the same as it was where I last left off, we havent really had time and not enough room in the shop. I've been locating the parts we need, which I think is pretty fun. Right now I'm just doing simple things. One thing I've been trying to do is get teh grille surround off so I can polish the whole thing up and get other things out easier. Its a major PITA to do. I got all the easy screws out, like under the hood and stuff, but you have to take the fender lips off, undo about 10 or so more screws, pull out the inner fender lining, and snake your arm up beside the more screws out. I had to jack it up and take the tire off just to get all that done

I messed with the rims some, and I think I should be able to get most of the buildup and a little rust off and make them look half nice. The center caps are pretty much wasted, so those are a toss up. The tires are definately getting replaced, and I'm trying to convince dad for either the new BFG's or Swamper TSL's. Since those new BFG's are out, he may change his mind ;)

I found the master cylinder, so thats a check. Theres a sandblaster at work, so we can use that if we need too, but we're supposed to get a dozer cab or something from the mine to rebuild, and they'll get us some new equipment in exchange with their company discounts. The cab, hood, and fenders are gonna be 'blasted, and the rear bumper, but I'm not sure on the air tank and service bed, since they're already primered.

I guess the interior will be ok for now, I can clean it up and make it look nice at least. There still needs to be wiring done for the lights. Not sure what needs done as far as ac/heat.

I dont know what type of carb we would need to get if we replace ours, but I'm reading up on Holley :) I want to do something about the pipe coming down from the passenger side header, it makes almost a 90 degree angle and then heads back to the muffler. It hangs down really low and its been bashed on something, but Dad said that was the only way the people would do it back then. I'd like to get dual Flowmasters instead of the glasspacks on there, I think that'd be really cool.

Well enough rambling, I just wanted to bring this back up to date for anymore who might be interested
