OK guys I have a question that have me stumped, I did all thse mods to my engine and obviously the fuel is now too rich where I'm having black smoke coming out of the exhaust. I was told at my altitude I loose like 2 point of compression here in denver (the mile high city) and putting on a supercharger puts my back at stock like I'm at sea level. And the 422 cam overlaps and puts in a little extra fuel, so with all that being said should I go back to stock injectors at 19#'s? I currently have 30# injectors right now, what should I do? and yeah it hasn't been tuned yet cause the people I'm dealing with here wants about a grand to dynotune. And I don't want to spend that kinda cash so????

I am always amazed how people spend thousands on modifications, and cringe when speaking if tuning cost.

This is the most important part of any engine build, whether it is a late 60's muscle car with a carb, or a late model EFI

You need tuning, that is all there is to it. You will do nothing but beat your head against a wall fighting it.

true, I'm really trying to get it to drivibility since there are only like 2 places in this metro area to take it to, and to quote you on that I didn't spend thousands on my mods, I would even say $1200

Your not to far from me, any places in Kanasas I can take it to? you recomend?

You could use 19# injectors and not worry about tuning if you use an FMU. Not the most accurate way of enriching fuel (I was getting a little too rich under boost in my old truck) but it'll be safe. Plus when you're not under boost you won't run too rich for normal driving.

There was a company called Cartech that makes a manually adjustable FMU so you could dial it in a little more precisely than one of the vortech FMUs.

Cool, I trust your jugdement, would be very happy if I can pass emissions like that???

Can't say for sure....my Vortech kit in its original form came with an FMU and the system was CARB rated for emissions in all 50 states (has a tag on the supercharger casing). As long as your Paxton has that it won't fail the visual inspection.

Now if you have to get hooked up to a sniffer for emissions testing then I don't know if they take into consideration that you have a supercharger or not. Might not even matter since you're running the 422 cam...but I haven't actually heard of anyone failing emissions specifically because of the 422.

I'd say the only way to find out for sure is to swap back to stock injectors and see what happens during the inspection. Maybe they'll be so in awe of your setup that they won't pay too much attention to what the sniffer is saying :)

My custom tune for my turbocharged Explorer was just the price of the SCT Flasher (<$400). Maybe you should look elsewhere for tuning ;)

Think I'll do that, Does everybody here still go to that guy Doug for SCT tuning and all? Or is there another person we all wanna try now?

Are they a memer of the board or is that SDS mine?
