My 2006 Explorer XLT, 4x4 'clunked' into gear yesterday. A cold front had come in, dropping temps to 20 degrees F, so I thought it may have been thick fluid.
Since then, when I back up and turn, initially it feels like the driver's side hub sticks, as it resists turning at first, then goes away. It still clunks into gear when cold. Not loud, but it's not normal.
The only trans work I had done was to have the fluid and filter replaced at the dealer this past summer at 100k miles.
I realize I need to get it checked out. Anything I can do first? If not, is this a sign of full on replacement? If so, trans shop or dealer?
Thanks
