Rocker Deep In a Flowing Creek!!!

Seems like i am going to need a lot of luck on this one.... Earlier today I was enjoying myself on some local offroad trails having a ball when suddenly I got stuck. I made it across the creek first with ease. Then when having to cross it to get back the way we came in, the motor bogs out completely and caput! Shes had enough for today. Now my Explorer is rocker panel deep, in a creek and now having to spend a night because none of my friends could help me out today. On top of that, my motor wont turn over. I am hoping that if im able to get it out of the creek, I can just pull the plugs, squirt some water, and change the oil that it will start. I am also thinking about taking a starter motor down with me just incase it needs swaped out. I dont know if thats necessary but it's better to be safe than sorry. Any advice?.....Anyone?.....

The most vital step is DEFINATELY DO NOT try to crank it without pulling the plugs first. You seem to have a good game plan, so cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Yep...don't crank over your engine until you pull ALL the plugs... If you hydrolocked the motor the cylinders contain water which can't be compressed by the pistons... If you try to crank it you can easily bend valves and trash your engine..

Btw you don't have any specs on your rig.. Is is stock or modified? I ask because stock explorers have a tube right behind the bumper which can suck in water and fast track it to your engine and then bam... Hydrolocked..

Dont get too bummed, i hydrolocked my explorer when i rolled into a ditch, pulled all the plugs and she fired right up, however it took 3 oil changes to get all of the water out..

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys, but i got it out successfully by pulling the plugs and squirting myself in the eye with water. The only hard thing was that no one could pull me out so i had to pull the plugs while standing in thigh deep creek water that was flowing pretty good. I actually amazed myself by not dropping anything into the creek while I was doing this. Sure enough we got her running and backed her right out. We changed the oil and drove right out of the woods. A new set of bearings in the front, a manual hub conversion, and 3 oilchanges and shes good as new. I got a picture when it was stuck but im having trouble posting it.

This is further proof that if you don't panic, there is a good chance all is not lost. Most people would have been pulling their hair out in a situation like that. I'm glad everything worked out for you.

Same thing happend to me in my 92. I was stuck in the Little River in SC for a whole day before I got a tow out. Changing plugs in a Church parking lot on a Sunday morning while covered in mud FTW!!! I was doing more praying than the people inside. Cranked up and drove to NC that day.
