2007 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi all,

I am new to the forum. I have a 2007 Explorer 4.0L XLT. I need some help it is idling rough and when I come ta a stop.it will stall and not want to start again and loss of power. Also I noticed it has black smoke coming from the exhaust. I thought it might have been the fuel pump and filter so I replaced both. It ran fine for about 2 weeks then started to do it again. So I thought throttle position sensor so I replaced it same issue. I am thinking maybe a intake manifold gasket but not sure. Now I am at a loss and dont know where to turn any advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

My guess is that the fuel pressure regulator went bad. You may also have a fuel injector that's stuck open.

Have you tried to pull trouble codes yet through the OBDII port?

It had multiple codes Pcm code, throttle position code. O2 codes, cat codes.

X2 on the FPR....and FWIW, running rich will throw an O2 code.

As in a leaky FPR. Dumps excess fuel in the cylinders. As stated, could also be one more bad injectors. FPR is easy enough to change. I'd start there, were I wearing your shoes. :)
