I’m pulling the 4.0 engine out of my 98’ explorer and have a rounded torque converter bolt… any ideas on getting it off? I’ve tried a gator grip socket, and vice grips but they don’t have enough room.

Dang that is pretty round!

I would try air chisel first may just turn it out if you have a sharp enough tip and control

You may have to pull trans off over the converter and then attack the 8 flex plate bolts with a wrench from the side remove flywheel and converter together

Done that a time or two
A nut splitter may work after it’s loose from engine

I'm hoping I don't gotta pull trans off but I'll give that air chisel a try first, thank you!

Heat the nuts off it and apply penetrating oil before anything

I mean…it also can’t be tight if it’s liquid, just saying….

Very true it should easily come off as long as you haven't damaged the threads that are sticking out

I’d sooner melt that nut and replace the flex plate and torque converter than pull the whole tranny…but I’m lazy 😂😂
