Running Boards - DeeZee and Others

I got the 2011 EX black/stone, I only found one company thats making 3" round stainless steel is Aries, AutoAnything has them on sale for $251/free shipping and Zigauto has them for $235/free shipping.

I just looked those up, they look pretty nice and it says no drill installation, although I don't see how that's possible. Someone needs to order up a set of these and see what they're all about.

Running boards for 2011

Browsing ebay I found another set of running boards for the new 2011 explorer.

Hard to tell how it really looks from the pictures but it seems like a good option if someone is looking for some. Also said there is no need to drill.

Nice find, the styling is nice. My only complaint is it looks like it's a glossy black and the lower trim on the Ex is more like a very dark grey so not sure how it will look in person.

I think I'm going to get a set of nerf bars when they're available. I think the 6" oval tube bars from Lund/AVS will be nice when they have the brackets available.

Yeah, they said that they could be painted so that gives you another option.

If I get a X in the future, I would like to have the black lower trim painted eddie bauer tan to give it a different look.

It looks like they are painted a different color

I'd wait until some others came out

Hi all,

i'm considering buying running boards for my 2011 explorer. Researching the Dee Zee running board, DZ16203 and brackets DZ16221.

From google pics they look nice, kind of like the ones on a BMW X6.

Anyone one else looking around, suggestions or even opinions on the dee zee product?

Thanks,

Ashman

A member here bought some (not sure the brand) and decided never to mount them. Mainly because the black trim on the Explorer did not match the blackness of the running boards. Try searching. IIRC, another member may have bought them from him/her.

Personally, I don't think the new Explorer needs running boards......unless you have very-very small children (or are vertically challenged). This Explorer is much closer to the ground than the old ones.

It is nice to see more fellow countrymen signing in with the new Explorer.

Don't see them for Explorer though. I see them for Edges.

I actually wish it had running boards.

I looked into the option as well and decided to go with a flat oval Nerf Bar instead. It's being shipped as we speak. Once it's installed I will post pics.

Personally I think either a running board or a bar will improve the look and fill that long void where other cars would have side skirts, as well as help passengers in the rear getting in and out, especially the mother in law ;)

I wish they had designed it with an integrated running board/skirt like on the X5

These "boards" and "bars" will become a HUGE snow & slush magnet in the winter. Just an FYI.

Yeah we get snow, but there will snow and slush all over the car anyways. Not a big deal.

Let me know also, I wish Ford had offer these as an option or include them in th LTD model

I have a 4 year old who has a hard time getting in. Both he and my 7 yo daughter use them all the time on our Volvo XC-90 (that we're trading in for a white/pecan '12 limited Explorer).
But what's most gouge about the running boards is being able to stand on them while loading up the Thule roof rack.

Anyone know about the Owens Fiberglass Transcender? I have a shop who says they will work on Explorer, but has to order them--so can't see them. I will need to have mine installed; so a shop is about my only option
